*taps* IS THIS THING ON?! A PSA that despite Black women being at the forefront of liberation movements and systemic change, nonprofits led by Black women are DISPROPORTIONATELY underfunded. 🗣️ This year we’ve teamed up with Brown Girls Climb, LLC and EDGE Outdoors to collectively raise $200,000 by the end of December to combat this funding gap while we combat the nature gap. We’re currently at 2% of our goal, further highlighting the economic disparity that even inspired this initiative. Just this year alone we’ve launched an affordable camping gear rental program with REI servicing the Southern California area, debuted an intergenerational youth-centered program called Sprouts centering the intersection of art and nature AND launched a capsule collection creating apparel, accessories and footwear with The North Face sold in The North Face and REI stores — and that’s JUST Hike Clerb! Collectively, we’ve gotten over *11,000* QTBIPOC OUTDOORS! Watch the video to learn more and head to givebutter.com/GJVKni to SUPPORT our work that’s creating a more inclusive and equitable outdoors… AND REPOST/SHARE to help us get in front of likeminded folks who align with this vision. + Learn more about the orgs involved here: www.hikeclerb.org www.browngirlsclimb.com www.edgeoutdoors.org

To start, check out the most downloaded article in the history of The Foundation Review: "Four Network Principles for Collaboration Success" by Jane Wei-Skillern, Ph.D., and Nora Silver, Ph.D., University of California at Berkeley. This article identifies a set of four counterintuitive principles that are critical to collaboration success and offers insights into how nonprofit leaders can ensure that their collaborations can have an impact that is dramatically greater than the sum of the individual parts. A decade of research developing detailed case studies on a range of successful networks revealed to the authors a common pattern of factors that are essential to effective networking. The principles are to focus on mission before organization; manage through trust, not control; promote others, not yourself; and build constellations, not stars. https://lnkd.in/gnuJJTSz #network #collaboration #leadership #thefoundationreview #philanthropy

I attended an excellent webinar by The Chronicle of Philanthropy, where one of the takeaways I learned was rethinking strategies for Giving Tuesday. With the event becoming more crowded, it's crucial to explore fresh approaches. In 2024, Giving Tuesday falls later than usual, on December 3, offering an opportunity for innovation. Here are some ideas to consider: - Host a thank you day to appreciate donors. - Launch your end-of-year appeal to maximize impact. - Make a big announcement to stand out amidst the noise. Have you witnessed surprising success stories from those who have utilized Giving Tuesday differently? Share your insights! #GivingTuesday #Philanthropy #Innovation

Pleased to be able to attend the #WeGiveSummit this week put on by Philanthropy Together! The opening session featuring Baratunde Thurston was insightful and inspirational. A few takeaways: * "Collective" is a trigger word in a society focused on rugged individualism. We have to make an intentional transition from the "I" mentality to the "We." * We must "opt into discomfort." Our world provides us many opportunities to hide from the realities that make us uncomfortable. If we are unable to sit with that discomfort and listen to what it has to teach us, then we can't move forward together. * Binaries are falsehoods. Everything exists on a spectrum. "The idea that we are divided is greater than the reality of our division." Collectivism requires that we connect across divisions to make meaningful change. * We are living in a time of great strife AND great strides. "Things are falling apart AND things are being born." Get comfortable using "AND" language, because multiple things can be true at the same time. Thank you, Baratunde, for your wise words! Excited to hear more about the power of collectivism and philanthropy over the next few days. https://wegivesummit.org/
