Names are powerful things, and what do you do when an existing one like #SovereignTechFund already means a lot to people around the world? When it symbolizes what government and societies can do when they take the #OpenSource building blocks of our digital world seriously? We're keeping STF, but building the Sovereign Tech Agency around it, and programs like #SovereignTechFellowship and #SovereignTechResilience (formerly known as #BugResilience) next to it. Taken all together, it's a new kind of public institution that looks out for critical digital infrastructure and supports software digital commons, among other important tasks. After all, we're just getting started!

How do you ensure project longevity? This week on The Business of Open Source I spoke with William Morgan, CEO of Buoyant, about many, many things, but one of the over-arching themes was how to increase the chances that your project will outlive you. I think what's interesting in this case is that it's one thing to be an underdog company, but in this case Linkerd was/is really an underdog project competing for attention and users with Istio -- Why Linkerd isn't going to be shipping stable releases anymore — or more precisely, why Buoyant isn't going to ship stable releases for Linkerd anymore, but if you want to become a Linkerd maintainer and do so, you can!
