Meet our startups: portrait of OpenCapacity 🚀   At yesterday’s midterm presentations in Frankfurt OpenCapacity presented their results after 50 days of the startup program Regional Traffic 2024. The London based company leverages cutting-edge machine learning and AI to create innovative solutions for the transport industry, with a core focus on AI-driven capacity forecasting for public transport networks. We talked with Gerrit Boehm (CEO) and Peter Todd (CTO) about their solution, why they founded the company, successes, and milestones.   🔧 𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓: OpenCapacity specialises in turning cutting edge research in computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI), into novel technology solutions for solving existing problems in the transport industry. Our core product is our patented solution for AI-driven capacity forecasting for public transport. Our USP is that we are sensor agnostic, utilising existing data sources that are already available on the public transport vehicle to enhance the insights for operators in order to better understand the conditions and the content of their rolling stock assets in real-time and future states - turning data into meaningful, actionable information.   🚀 𝐖𝐇𝐘: The groundwork started during Gerrit’s PhD, investigating solutions to optimise public transport, specifically looking a different ways how public transport environments, in particular the vehicle capacity, can be optimised to allow for a better operational service, as well as customer experience - by utilising sensors embedded in the environment to learn from the data in order to actively provide feedback to help optimise the situation. Looking to continue the research in this field we (Peter and Gerrit) secured governmental funding that allowed us to take cutting edge research and translate it into novel, innovative solutions for the transport industry - which ultimately led to the creation of OpenCapacity and our unique solution for AI-Driven Capacity Monitoring & Forecasting for Public transport.    🏆 𝐒𝐔𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒: We secured pre-seed funding that led to forming OpenCapacity and with further following funding that helped us to establish ourselves in the market as the leading solution for Real-time Capacity Prediction for Public Transport. As part of this, we also recently got our EU Patent granted that further helps to distinguish us as the key solution for AI-Driven Capacity Forecasting for Public Transport.
