🚀 Today, October 10th 2024 was the first official launch of EOSC EU NODE, a reference node for EOSC provided by the European Commission The presentation was held for @European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) and Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT) and EOSC Association. The launch event was organised in a hybrid mode and focused on a technical demonstration of the EOSC EU Node, provided by the contractors at first hand, who are also responsible for the operations, maintenance and support of the services. 🌟 The official launch and opening for public use is scheduled for the #EOSCSymposium later this month, marking a significant milestone in making EOSC a reality! NORDUnet is proud to play a crucial role alongside other Nordic NRENs (Sikt – Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research, SUNET) Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center / Poznańskie Centrum Superkomputerowo-Sieciowe (PCSS), CESNET, z.s.p.o, GRNET - Greek Research & Technology Network, GÉANT, ownCloud and Safespring in this effort, which lays the groundwork for a new era of EOSC. This procurement provided an important opportunity for the #NREN community to showcase their ability to deliver beyond traditional network services. The EOSC EU NODE builds on lessons learned from previous EOSC projects, addressing existing shortcomings and enhancing the foundational elements necessary for a more robust, scalable, and effective EOSC infrastructure. Notable advancements include the consolidated EOSC AAI, led by GÉANT, and strengthened collaboration between the public and private sectors to deliver services under a clear set of guidelines. The EOSC EU NODE will offer compute, container, storage, and file transfer/synchronization services, with additional offerings expected in the future. This represents a significant step forward in realizing the EOSC vision. Supporting the EU’s Policy of Open Science, the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) aims to give the EU a global lead in research data management and ensure that scientists in Europe enjoy the full benefits of data-driven science. To foster the development of EOSC, the European Commission has deployed into production the EOSC EU Node in the form of managed services provided by third-party contractors. https://lnkd.in/dwtr5NHD #DGRTD #DGCNECT #eoscEUnode #EOSC

We are pleased to report that European Computer Telecoms (ECT) has been recognized as one of Germany's most innovative companies. https://lnkd.in/djF-82vW The study was conducted by the the Süddeutsche Zeitung Institut—a research organization associated with the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper—along with a financial and business information provider. Researchers evaluated the intellectual property and financial situations of more than 2,000 companies. Only 272 made it into the innovation ranking. #Innovation #Telecoms #Germany

International Internet Day is observed each year on 29 October to recognize the world-changing impacts of the modern Internet. This year, #IEEE celebrated the Internet's 50th anniversary. #IEEEi50 highlighted the contributions of IEEE Life Fellows Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn, who created the TCP/IP protocols and designed the architecture of the Internet, paving the way to the World Wide Web that we know today. These pivotal milestones continue to have a profound impact on the way we live, work and connect. #WithIEEE

Non Terrestrial Networks (NTN) is a domain of communication which has captured growing attention from the wider- including terrestrial- community in particular on the occasion of 5G standardisation, with the first ever set of 3GPP standards developed to integrate satcoms into 5G terrestrial networks in June 2022. These efforts continue, notably in the context of 6G with a growing recognition of satcoms as a technology sovereignty domain for Europe at a moment when multiple constellations are deployed or planned. The ETSI NTN workshop is a great opportunity to take stock of ongoing research developments initiatives in the NTN domain and to help the community identifying the most promising standardisation avenues to make NTN a truly seamless part of mobile com networks whilst contributing to key SDG's like coverage and access and related KVI's as defined by the HEXA-X II 6G flagship project of the European SNS initiative.
The 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association in collaboration with ETSI and the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) are organizing the Conference on “Non-Terrestrial Networks, a Native Component of 6G”, which will take place face-to-face on 3-4 April 2024 in ETSI, in Sophia Antipolis, France. The detailed event programme is available here: https://lnkd.in/dGMyva9f Posters presenting various related research projects will complement the conference programme. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit the posters during the coffee and lunch breaks. This face-to-face event will offer attendees a unique opportunity to exchange with experts on 6G-NTN related matters and to network with peers. Participation to the event is open to all and free of charge upon registration. We look forward to welcoming you in ETSI for the 6G-NTN Conference.
