Brown of Dark Forest Studio Space for Surgilum LLC, received a gold International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in the Medical & Health category. #IDSAIDEA Prior to vision-correction surgery, doctors must mark their work zone so that they know where to align their laser and/or an artificial lens used to correct an astigmatism. But current markers use metal tips that require sterilization (i.e., wait time) and application of wet ink onto a wet cornea, creating an indistinct mark that fades in 15 minutes The RoboMarker G2 by Surgilum is a first-in-class handheld device designed to aid ophthalmic surgeons. 3DLoom in Action 👨🔬 A case of a 23 year old patient who suffered a complex tibial plateau fracture, necessitating a meticulous reconstruction due to the tibial plateau being a part of the knee joint. Recognized as one of the most intricate fractures to manage, a 3D model was commissioned for enhanced preoperative planning. The surgical team utilized the 3D printed model to meticulously plan the reconstruction before the actual procedure. This strategic approach streamlined the operation, resulting in a notable reduction in surgical time. The surgery was successfully completed in just 2 hours, representing a significant advancement compared to the typical duration for similar procedures (typically ranging around 4 hours). Six months post-operation, the patient has achieved full range of motion and regained the ability to walk without experiencing any residual pain. Case of the day! When a patient facing an 80% chance of losing their upper limb due to a large Osteochondroma was offered limited hope, Qubx 3D stepped in to change the story. Osteoporosis is a growing concern as the population ages, leading to increased risk of fractures and surgical complications. To make informed treatment decisions and identify patients who are prone to bone density related issues, surgeons need to know the bone quality of their patients before surgery. However, the current methods of bone density analysis, such as 2D Hounsfield unit or intraoperative thumb test, are not very reliable or accurate. This study aimed to develop a preoperative method to measure the local cancellous bone mineral density (BMD) of the proximal humerus from CT data. Synopsys Simpleware Software allowed researchers to use three dimensional regions of interest to be more precise and consistent than the existing methods.
