As an Architect, I don't design just to make millions. What I truly care about is creating spaces that: ☑️ Allow people to experience happiness and joy ☑️ Stand the test of time, built to last for generations ☑️ Never have to worry about structural issues or hazards ☑️ Achieve functional independence from future renovations ☑️ Express the client's vision on their own terms I don't need excessive budgets or elaborate materials to accomplish any of those goals. I prefer to live and design quite simply, in harmony with the natural environment. If you're creating sustainable architecture integrated with the landscape, having just the right resources allows you to be the happiest designer in the world. At peace, among greenery and natural elements. For me, it's about enjoying the creative process and delivering on the client's terms - not getting caught up in extraneous spending or complexity. You can see my sketches are rough, and scribbled on simple materials. P.S. My mentors used to scold me the most when my model drafts were too messy! What did your professors or seniors criticize you for the most when you were a student?

Loosening Your Death Grip on Vivid White (Advice for Architects!) I taught the first round of my new CPD Workshops on Architectural Colour Design in April, and I began by somewhat cautiously opening discussion around the use (and in my opinion, overuse) of the colour white by architects. But by the third and fourth workshops, I ripped off that bandaid and opened with "How to Loosen Your Death Grip On Vivid White". The response was enthusiastic, and the feedback extremely positive! One participant writing: "The skilful demolition of the use of vivid white was very compelling! The explanations of how to start to look for more appropriate colours was excellent. The technical discussion about working with tone...before colour will change my architectural life! I very much appreciated the slide where Sonia explained the use of complex chroma...strong chroma but made from multiple colours for complexity. This was so clear..." If you'd like to read about WHY I think this is so important - there's a short article on my website. https://lnkd.in/geQWVPNH AND if you are interesting in finding out about my next round of colour workshops (new dates will be announced soon!) The desire to "live beyond one's death" is a common theme in architecture. Many architects aspire to create buildings, structures, and designs that outlive them and leave a lasting legacy. There are a few ways this can be interpreted: Physical Legacy, Influence and Impact, Symbolic Immortality, Societal/Cultural Contribution So in this context, the desire to "live beyond their deaths" reflects the architectural profession's inherent drive to create lasting, impactful works that transcend the mortality of the individual designer. It's about leaving a tangible, influential mark on the built environment. By carefully considering the selection and application of building materials, architects can also create structures that are more likely to endure, both physically and in the collective memory of society. This can help fulfill their desire to have their designs and ideas live beyond their own lifetimes and enrich the world they leave behind. Some designers push the boundaries of material usage, experimenting with new or unconventional materials to create unique, visually striking structures. The use of these innovative materials can become associated with the architect's signature style, allowing their design legacy to live on. Increasingly, designers are considering the environmental impact and adaptability of building materials. By selecting sustainable, renewable, and adaptable materials, they can create structures that are more likely to be maintained, repurposed, and preserved over time, extending the lifespan of their designs. #DesignInspiration #InteriorDesign ##landscape #ThoughtProvokingDesign #MeaningfulSpaces #design #neatt.design #AustralianDesignCommunity #ArchitectsOfAustralia #CommercialDesignersDownUnder

Smart" materials, also known as intelligent or responsive materials, have revolutionized the field of architecture with their ability to adapt and respond to changing environmental conditions. These materials possess properties that can be altered in response to external stimuli such as temperature, light, moisture, or mechanical stress. Transforming Lives Through Design: The Architect's Creed As architects, we are not just designers of buildings; we are the silent partners in every phase of life. From the first breath taken in a maternity ward to the final farewell in a serene chapel, our work cradles humanity's most profound moments. 🏠 **People live** in the spaces we create, finding comfort and security within walls that we have meticulously planned. 💼 **People work** in offices we've designed, where our thoughtful layouts foster collaboration and innovation. 🎓 **People learn** in educational institutions we've shaped, where our vision becomes the backdrop for future generations to dream. 💒 **People get married** in venues we've crafted, where our structures bear witness to the promises of lifelong companionship. Our work is a testament to the belief that architecture is not just about structures, but about the souls that inhabit them. Every line we draw, every plan we conceive, every building we bring to life is a silent vow to enhance the human experience. Let's continue to design with purpose, passion, and a deep understanding of the lives that unfold within the spaces we create. Because in the end, it's not just about the buildings; it's about the people. #Architecture #DesignImpact #HumanExperience #BuildingLife
