Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) are the primary tool used to quantify the energy performance of an individual building, but they do not tell us what we need to know. Energy Systems Catapult has proposed significant reforms to EPCs, aiming to better align them with the nation’s climate targets. For heating installers, these changes are crucial to understand as they reshape how energy performance in homes is measured and improved. For HVP, Fay Holland, Senior Energy Policy Advisor – Heat Decarbonisation & Local Energy at Energy Systems Catapult, assesses the current limitations, and the future potential, of Energy Performance Certificates. #EPCreform https://lnkd.in/ejmhiWyZ

On September 11, 2024 the California Energy Commission (CEC) unanimously approved the 2025 California Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6). The Statewide Codes and Standards Enhancement (CASE) Team is proud to have supported the CEC throughout the code cycle in developing new and revised code requirements that represent a significant milestone in the state’s continued efforts to meet critical energy and climate goals. The 2025 code is expected to result in an annual statewide energy savings of 404 GWh of electricity and 35 million therms of natural gas. It will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 177,000 metric tons CO2e per year, which is equivalent to the emissions from 42,126 cars. The 2025 code will also support building decarbonization, load management, and grid resiliency. 📄 The latest report from The Coalition for Energy Savings evaluates how well the draft National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) align with the 2023 Energy Efficiency Directive (EED). ❌ Despite the pressing need to plan and implement policies and measures to achieve energy savings, none of the draft NECP updates fully comply with the requirements of the new #EED. ⚡ From The European Alliance to Save Energy (EU-ASE), we applaud the work done by the Coalition and keep advocating for a rigorous implementation of the EED at national level across all member states. 💡 Introducing Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs)! 💡 The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme, also known as the Energy Saver Incentive (ESI), helps Victorians save on power bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by offering discounted energy-efficient products and services. 🌿 By setting a statewide energy savings target, the scheme ensures access to discounted energy-saving solutions for homes and businesses. #VEECs #EnergyEfficiency 🏡♻️

The DOE has released zero-emissions building definition, part 1 of 3. Part 1 of the definition focuses on operational emissions from energy use, setting criteria to determine whether a building generates zero emissions from energy used in building operations. Parts 2 and 3 will define zero on-site emissions from energy use, involving ensuring that direct greenhouse gas emissions from energy use equal zero; and ensuring that all energy consumed by the building is clean energy obtained through any combination of on- and off-site sources, as long as GHG emissions from that source equal zero. https://ow.ly/iErp30sEnVc #sustainabledesign #zeroemissions #carbonemissions #emissionsreduction

⛄ There’s so much to look forward to in the run up to Christmas and New Year but unfortunately, it does come with a surge in energy bills. 📈 As the cold weather creeps in, you can’t stop a spike in your energy use. You do, however, have some control over how big that spike gets. Simply by getting your building – and building energy management system (BEMS) – winter ready. ⏰ With the clocks due to 'fall back' on 27th October, now is the perfect time to get on top of your energy efficiency. 👉 Here's some hints and tips to get you started: https://lnkd.in/e_wmDDv3 #TeamKendra #BEMS #BMS #energyefficiency
