Norwegian seafood is selling well worldwide! Mackerel prices soar, salmon sets record, will they continue to rise in the future? According to the latest data from the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), the export value of Norwegian seafood reached an unprecedented high in October 2024, with a 5% increase compared to the same period last year. This significant growth is mainly due to the surge in mackerel sales, with Norway selling a total of 2.5 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately 227 million US dollars) worth of mackerel in the month, an increase of 750 million Norwegian kroner compared to the same period last year. NSC CEO Christian Kramer stated that the high demand for Norwegian mackerel in the Asian market has driven up prices and confirmed the strong position of Norwegian mackerel in the global market. At the same time, he also pointed out that such price increases may bring certain pressure to the market value chain. In addition to mackerel, Norwegian salmon exports have also performed well, especially with significant growth in exports to the US market. In October, Norway sold a total of 144761 tons of salmon worth 12 billion Norwegian kroner. Although sales increased by 10%, the value slightly increased, still setting a record for monthly export value. Among them, the sales growth of fresh and frozen fish fillets is particularly prominent, with the United States being the biggest beneficiary of this growth.
