Are you like the fish in the video? Which of the two fishes are you? Here we explore the three simple steps to unlock your potential. #leadershipexcellence #executivecoaching #limitingbeliefs
We all have limiting beliefs. Where do they come from, and what can we do about them ? Watch this short video (less than 2 minutes) and the metaphor might hit you like a glass wall in the nose. With the right discussion partner you can learn how to overcome these beliefs and unlock your potential. The first thing to do is to gain awareness about the way you see yourself. This is important because the way you see yourself is how others see you. Then you can explore what you need to do to be who you need to be to get what you want to get. (Read that twice) And finally you will need an accountability partner to make sure you stay on course. What would you like to change in your life ? #leadershipexcellence #unlockyourpotential #executivecoaching

I have enjoyed all episodes of #PfefferOnPower, but this one, in particular, has been my favorite. As a coach in Jeffrey Pfeffer's class on Power, I find the topics covered very familiar. However, Deborah Gruenfeld's take on the same ideas makes them even more compelling, with great stories supporting them. Jeff's Book "7 Rules of Power" and Deb's work on "Acting & Speaking with Power" are what I call the perfect complements for anyone who wants to learn how to build influence for themselves and the impact they wish to create (which cannot be done without being in a position of power). Key takeaways from the conversation: *** The first decision anyone makes is whether you are someone to be paid attention to - visuals and nonverbal cues can go a long way here! *** Showing up with authority can be done using two techniques - - Outside-in technique - changing how you use your physical self. (e.g., taking ownership of time, longer strides, Having an open upper body, holding the silence in the room.) -Inside-out technique - Reframe the narratives to show up with more power - Use your imagination to put yourself in an alternative state/ role you are playing *** There is a universal desire for status - and there is no upper limit, but not everyone wants power. Some people care for respect but not control, and this is because people do not want to be held accountable and take ownership of authority - they fear losing, failing, and making enemies. *** People should focus on building power - not because it signifies higher status for them, but because their work is more important than how they are being perceived. The moment your purpose takes over your fear of public perception, you lose the fear of failing and making enemies *** Do not leave power to the bad guys... take ownership if you want to see something change - attaining a position of power is the only way you can change lives, change organizations, and change the world! #power #leadership #buildingpowertolead #pathstopower
