"Jenny George knows how tough it is being a CEO; she was one. It helps explain why George is so passionate about the secret school for ASX CEOs, which she oversees as the dean of the Melbourne Business School (MBS). ... The success of the invite-only school for ASX CEOs has also given rise to a new MBS course for CEOs and executives who don’t quite fit MacKenzie’s strict entry criteria called CEO Ready. It adds to the school’s marquee MBA qualification and related executive programs. ... George says the very practical CEO training reinforces her philosophy that leaders should start with the broadest possible education and become more specific in their training as they reach the point in their career when they need those skills. 'I think undergraduate degrees are absolutely fantastic and the right thing to do, but not if you think they are your way to learn the skills you need for a job, that’s not the point. If I was doing a bachelor of business I would do an undergraduate degree that had English literature or oratory, for example.' 'An undergraduate is where you should do your very broad, mind-expanding subjects and you should do your functional, practical, here’s what I need to know, you should do that during your career, when you need it. There’s no point teaching an 18-year-old something they are going to need when they are a CEO.' " "It is all part of George’s philosophy about lifelong learning, which she says should start with a broad education and become more practical as leaders work out what specific tools they need. 'I notice that people who are successful tend to be a lot more curious than average. I think that lifelong learning is all about that,' George tells 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘦𝘸 over lunch at Donnini’s in Lygon Street, Carlton, not far from the school. 'That, for me, is a hallmark of someone who can turn native intelligence into useful business intelligence.' During our Global Meeting in Panama City, we sat down with Renee Arrington, NACD.DC, Vice Chair, Americas of IIC Partners, and President & COO of Pearson Partners International to discuss board search assignments. Renee shared some incredible insights that we will share over the coming weeks. Here is the first question we asked: What do you look for in first-time board candidates? "I look for a couple of things. Firstly, what experience does that candidate have with a board of directors? Do they report to that board? Have they attended and presented at meetings? So, what's their experience base in terms of their current employer's board? Secondly, have they taken the opportunity to gain any board governance certifications? There are many organizations that offer such certifications. For example, the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) has a certified directorship program. The Private Directors Association and 50/50 Women on Boards also offer board readiness training. Lots of groups provide such training. And then thirdly, do they have any references from CEOs with whom or for whom they've worked over the years that say, "Hey, this candidate really is board ready"?" Thank you, Renee Arrington, NACD.DC, and the team at Pearson Partners International (IIC Partners: Dallas), for participating! #boardsearch #boards #leadership #executivesearch

Had the pleasure of taking a Management Consulting course with Professor Murray Kronick as part of our MBA program at Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. The course provided valuable insights into consulting and its practical applications. While there were many significant takeaways from this course, the one that stood out the most for me is the distinction between Quality Service and Quality Services. • Quality services are about offering a variety of solutions to meet different needs. • Quality service is about delivering those solutions with excellence, care, and attention to detail—creating meaningful and valuable outcomes. That extra “s” makes all the difference! This principle isn’t just important in consulting but resonates across every profession and aspect of life! #Telfer #TelferNation #uottawa #MBA #ManagementConsulting
