✨ Hopestead’s Impact Report 2023-24 - #HopeFunds ✨ Watch the highlights from our Impact Report – this week, we’re focusing on #HopeFunds 🤝 Through Hope Funds, we’re supporting other charities, social enterprises and community groups with grants so they can amplify their activity and impact. Hope Funds supported: - 19 organisations - With more than £176,000 in funding - This led to more than 12,000 people being supported. Cambridgeshire-based homelessness support service Wintercomfort for the Homeless was one recipient of a Hope Funds grant. Hear from services manager Agnieszka Gada on the impact this had for them: 💬 “We provide service for rough sleepers and vulnerably housed adults. It's like a hub for support. “The Hopestead funding goes towards the employment cost so we can deliver services. A 1000% increase in impact for SFAC! 🥳 Not the usual 100%  but a 1000% growth in reach since SFAC was founded! 👏 For a small charity, here’s what this monumental leap looks like ⬇️ In 2002, SFAC worked with only three organisations across three countries. 🫣 Fast forward to the year 2012, SFAC worked with eight organisations across eight countries. 🚀 Just last year in 2023, SFAC worked with 33 organisations across 16 countries! That’s a footprint in 51 countries in total since we started! 🌎 So what does it mean for children around the world?! 🤔 It means: ☑️ More children reunited with their families and fewer children living in large institutions (aka “orphanages”) ✅ More children living in foster care or with extended family members instead of in large institutions ☑️ More children are having their unique needs identified and met rather than whole groups of children being given exactly the same care. ✅ The children protected and cared for by each organisation receive a higher standard of care wherever they live. ☑️ New legislation, policies, and procedures are being implemented in many countries & organisations so prevention becomes the focus and fewer children end up in care. 🔑 You can also help us continue this vital work. The Whiteley Community Foundation is a cross-body charitable trust made up of representatives from The Whiteley Project, Westminster City Council, and local residents' associations. They are looking to make a positive contribution to the local area by delivering and supporting local projects, which is how we came across them. Feed London was looking for a way to reach families in Westminster, where child poverty stands at a surprising 30% - shocking when you consider just how wealthy this London borough is. The Whiteley Community Foundation saw the opportunity in a partnership and are funding our work there over the next two years, helping us reach over 500 families struggling with poverty, food poverty, and crises. It's been such a great experience collaborating with colleagues from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan | Similkameen and the Community Foundation North Okanagan to create the Okanagan Prosperity Fund. Together, we're making tangible impact in communities across the Okanagan Valley and I'm excited to share some key highlights: 1️⃣ Impact Measurement Training: We're empowering nonprofits with the tools they need to measure their impact effectively. This training is vital for organizations to showcase their success and secure future funding. 2️⃣ Collaborative Funding Application: By streamlining the application process into a single, unified form, we're reducing the administrative burden on nonprofits, allowing them to focus more on their mission and less on paperwork. 3️⃣ Multi-Year Operational Funding: Providing long-term, stable funding gives organizations the security to plan ahead and make sustainable changes, which is crucial for driving lasting impact. These initiatives are all about supporting our nonprofits in the most effective ways possible. Excited for the continued collaboration and the positive changes we’ll see together! 

Charity is important, but it’s not enough. While charitable efforts can provide immediate relief, they often do not address the systems of deeper, systemic issues. At YMCA Together, we work to tackle the root causes of poverty, inequality and injustice. “We’re in a position where we are going to have to be making decisions of: Do we give out less food?” - Heather Kirby, executive director of Kawartha Lakes Food Source, said demand for the charity’s services is outpacing the organization’s revenue growth. If the charity is forced to do so, it won’t be alone, according to a new report from the Ontario Nonprofit Network. In 2024, 56% of non-profits reported scaling back programs or services—a 17% increase from the year prior. In addition to reducing program capacity, 33% of non-profits said they increased program or service waiting lists over the past year, and 12% reported discontinuing programs or services.
