I recently came across a school’s social media platform where they advised children to stop using mobile phones entirely, warning that their eyes could be injured. A teacher even claimed she received an injection in her eye due to mobile phone usage. While it is alarming how easily children can become addicted to screens offering content 24/7, prohibiting them from using mobile phones or digital devices completely is not the solution. Many of us have heard people say, "If only my parents had allowed me to explore different fields instead of confining me to traditional paths, I’d be in a much better place now." By completely banning children from using digital devices, we risk repeating this cycle. Instead, we should educate and empower children to use their devices wisely. Help them understand that devices can serve various purposes beyond entertainment. Explain the reasons behind concerns about excessive device usage, highlighting the potential risks and benefits. If unsure how to address these issues, seek assistance from professionals or experienced individuals who can guide both you and your child. Implement effective screen time moderation, ensuring that they use their devices in a balanced manner. Work with your child to explore online tools and resources that align with their interests, such as reading, coding, health, fitness, or design. It is equally important to balance digital activities with non-digital ones. Spend quality time with your child engaging in activities that do not require a device. Play, read, travel, and walk together. Show your child that you support their worthwhile endeavors, whether they involve digital devices or not. This helps them understand that they have your support in any meaningful activity they pursue. Ultimately, it is crucial for children to know that their parents are with them in any meaningful activity they pursue. Emphasize that intentions, purpose, and effects matter because they are precious to you. By balancing screen time with other activities and showing interest in their pursuits, you can help children develop a healthy relationship with technology. #technology #mobilephones #screentime #devices #tabs #knowyourchild #children #childhood #parents #generation #takehelp #connect

How much time do you spend on your phone? Not talking… but scrolling, posting, watching and other ways to pass the time. The theme for this year’s #PTAHealthyLifestylesMonth is “Get Off Your Apps”. This is a great reminder for kids and adults alike that we need to spend more time away from our devices. Go play a game, create a craft, or do something enriching rather than being sucked in the world of the tiny computers we carry in our pockets. Not only is this good for your own #personalgrowth, it will also help you convert more leases when you leave your phone behind and focus on your future residents. #pesonalgrowth#propertymanagement #beinspired #multifamilymaven

We all have seen elders in our family struggling to do the most basic things on their phones, such as saving a contact, finding a saved contact, turning the internet on/off, changing phone’s media/phone/alarm volume, installing/uninstalling apps, setting up alarm, making online payments, ordering food online, etc. Some of us have tried multiple times to teach them how to do these things, but they keep forgetting. The reason is that they just remember the steps without truly understanding why each step is being performed. Most of the time, from whatever little they remember, they press some buttons here and there, in the hope that things would work. We, the youngsters, are also to blame here. In our busy schedules, we don't put enough effort to explain each step in detail. But, for the elders to be independent and self-sufficient, they need to be held and taught the basic aspects of a smartphone, in a language that they understand. And once they understand the basics, they will be capable enough to do more advanced things, by themselves. To help you achieve this, we, at Tech Paathshala, are creating videos, watching which elders in your family will be able to use their smartphones proficiently. This would make their life much easier and entertaining! Please share the links to our videos with the elders in your family. We are eager to hear feedback from you! Youtube Channel Link is shared in the comments. (Thankfully most of the elders now know how to watch videos on Youtube!)

Yeasterday at 8 PM we started out first Family Non-Tech day. Solemnly, all the gadgets were put in a box, sealed for a day. In the morning, almost all of us (the youngest at the age of 5 does not use any gadgets) alternately felt phantom pains - the hand stretched out to see what time it was, then look at the breakfast recipe, then find out what time the Lego park opens. But we courageously coped and only dismantled the gadgets at 8 p.m. today. From observations: - you can definitely live a day without a smartphone - some things are better clarified or planned in advance if you decide to give up your smartphone for a day - you will make no photos for a day - ordering food and groceries will only be possible by going to the store. Out of habit, it turns on - I will not buy now, I will order from home, and this leads to the fact that I have to go to the store again. - we don't need to use cash at all. Apple Pay is much better than card, but last one is still OK. - with children, you definitely need to think about alternative activities - walks, parks, guests, board games... For them it harder then for adults. We are lucky - our kids read every evening, it helped last hour 😉 - a very interesting experience for the whole family. Although at the time of the announcement of the Non-Tech Day, the children were completely against it and tried to convince us that nothing would work, in the end everything went quite easily. So take a note.

The internet offers a vast array of information and services, but it also hosts content unsuitable for children. Determining what's appropriate depends on individual parents and caregivers, who must consider factors such as age, capabilities, beliefs, and family values. Parental controls play a crucial role in blocking and filtering inappropriate content across WiFi, phone networks, apps, and devices. These controls assist in setting time restrictions for children's online access, implementing content filters to block apps with unsuitable content, and managing the visibility of content for various family members. You can set up parental controls on home broadband and WiFi, games consoles, mobiles, tablets, apps, and online services, as well as search engines. However, it is important to exercise caution when using WiFi, especially when away from home. The controls established on your child's device and home broadband may not apply if they switch to 3G or 4G, public WiFi, or a friend's network. Therefore, it is essential to be cautious with public WiFi, as it may not always be secure. Look for family-friendly WiFi symbols that indicate filtered content in some public places. In addition to technological safeguards, communication with your child about online boundaries and expectations is vital. When visiting others, recognize that they might not have the same controls in place. By combining parental controls with open discussions about online safety, parents and caregivers can help ensure a safer and more appropriate online experience for their children.
