Delivering Strategic Thinking for Positive Change with the Department of Youth Justice, Queensland Government It was a privilege to lead a strategic thinking and planning session for the committed professionals at the Department of Youth Justice, Queensland Government. This team is doing vital work to create safer communities and support young people in building better futures. The session focused on: ✅ Defining Clear Objectives: Refining goals that align with reducing reoffending and fostering youth rehabilitation. ✅ Collaboration and Innovation: Encouraging teamwork and fresh approaches to tackle complex challenges within the justice system. ✅ Practical Strategies: Providing actionable tools for effective decision-making and long-term impact. ✅ Focus on Outcomes: Prioritizing strategies that balance accountability, rehabilitation, and community safety. What stood out most was the dedication of the participants. Their passion for driving positive change through strategic action is a powerful force for transformation. A big thank you to the Department of Youth Justice for trusting me with this opportunity to contribute. Together, we are paving the way for impactful, sustainable outcomes. How do you incorporate strategic thinking into addressing systemic challenges? Let’s share ideas! #YouthJustice #StrategicPlanning #LeadershipDevelopment #CommunityImpact

The para-educator is crucial for CT's children—Ellington Schools have many amazing paras. The importance of ensuring excellent health care is noble. I applaud CT Comptroller Scanlon's effort, but caution the approach—hoping that long-term sustainability has been vetted to avoid the ever-increasing local municipal fiscal dependence on the State to operate. This dynamic is a long-term losing proposition for all CT citizens. Watch the upcoming biennial budget the Governor will propose. Will the $10 million be increased? What will this line item be in say five years—$45 million? I encourage the State to work with our federal representatives in the Senate & House toward fundamental economic reform to build capacity in all CT cities and towns to fund proper employee benefits without State assistance. I assure you - this is possible and when done will benefit everyone's quality of life—from Hartford to Pomfret to Ellington. https://lnkd.in/eeYBr_Hv

VMIAC acknowledges the Victorian Government's announcement of an integrated Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service https://bit.ly/4aTLv9j. Young people deserve quality, rights-based, and lived experience co-developed and lived experience-led care. This announcement ahead of the May 2024 budget reflects a financial investment to implement recommendations from the Royal Commission. VMIAC is concerned to ensure that consumer leadership and human rights are formally embedded in the governance and legal structures of this new service. Given the significant financial investment in this service, VMIAC expects that budget announcements on 7 May 2024 will implement Recommendation 29 to establish Our Agency - a lived experience agency aimed at supporting lived experience leadership. The sector remains eager for this promise to be kept. #vmiac #LivedExperience #MentalHealthReform #LivedExperienceLeadership #ConsumerLeadership #FundOurAgency

Young people deserve services designed by them. If this is done well, it will be a service that has clearly embedded consumer leadership and human rights into its governance, design and operations. This is also a reminder of why Recommendation 29 is so crucial to mental health reforms. A small investment, Recommendation 29 would ensure many other parts of the system, such as this, have the benefit of organised lived experience innovation and leadership.

I really appreciated the thought that went into this session. It combined the wisdom of people who have experienced human services with the efforts of people designing the IT systems to help our states, counties, and cities better serve our children and families. Ubuntu-I am because we are Sawubona- I see you A really important message in thinking through how can we truly see the people we serve? And how can we make sure they are seen in the systems we design to serve them? #ISMPHSA2024
We're definitely heading home inspired after this morning's interactive lived experience workshop focused on how we can put the heart into our IT and human services systems. Benu Amun-Ra, Dedria Johnson, and Princess Mack—all part of the Colorado Department of Human Services Family Voice Council—were joined by representatives from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) to discuss the importance of retaining youth input and offer techniques on integrating it into a responsive information system. "Have the audacity to disrupt the system so we can make it better for the next generation." - Benu Amun-Ra #ISMPHSA24

If you haven't already read it, my colleague Mark Bate published a great report on the value of commercial expertise on NHS Trust boards. But do we need more commercial and sales skills on Housing Association boards? I was in an interesting conversation with a NED from a housing board yesterday who made the point that housing providers have (very rightly) made a big push to bring more individuals into the board room who understand the local community, their interests & perspectives. But there is still a need to connect this point of view with commercial or operational reality. Traditionally sales or commercial executives (inc marketing) have traditionally been very good at managing this balancing act. Is there a role for them to play in the social housing sector? https://lnkd.in/e_g-Kkwp #housing #NEDs #boards
