OH the irony… Conference organizing committee is looking for a session to help participants handle ambiguity, I have been invited to keynote on this topic at the conference. There is a planning meeting with the committee. One member of the committee challenges the need for this talk and asks for examples of ambiguity that people might face and keeps saying things like: “I don’t know what this will be like…” “can you give me examples…” “what will they be experiencing in the session exactly…” “not sure if this is needed…” “what exactly will you be doing…?” Nope… no issues with ambiguity here… ====== As event professionals we plan. We have meeting plans, contingency plans, backup plans and buffers. We spend so much time planning to control for the unexpected, but… what if… What if… we could give up some control to increase engagement…? Some of the most magical moments in our events are when things go off script. Instead of trying to “control” for the unexpected, we need to “prepare” for it, even encourage it. When we no longer see uncertainty as a threat, it becomes our opportunity. #eventprofs #conferences #meetingsandevents #businessevents #ambiguity #uncertainty #unscripted #speaker #keynotespeaker

I don’t care how much fun your offsite or event was. I don’t care how great the speaker at your event was. I don’t care how many good memories your offsite creates. I do care about how you implement your insights and learnings from your offsite. I do care about how much behavioir change you sustainably implement after your offsite insights to make your business better. Don’t confuse a “great offsite” with great results for your business. A great offsite is a start, but how you implement the serious stuff in a sustainable accountable way - that’s what makes your business better. That’s what we obsess over for our clients. Our offsites are the start or the embedding of a proper disciplined process over time. Hand Up! Who finds it easy running a business or a Team? In the video I talk about our forthcoming event on 13 November 2024 4.30-6.40 about Navigating Business Challenges. Whether you run a business or a team, advise business owners or want to learn more about business challenges, this should a good one. Sam Leaver and I really enjoy hosting this event. We love looking at business challenges from the perspective of the business owners/managers and bringing people together to discuss the topics. Delighted to have Trina Beare from Lamberts join us to hard her journey and lessons learned. Great to catch up with Trina yesterday as there is lots to share. It is rare for directors to talk about this and I am sure guests will get plenty of take-aways. Message me if you want more details. We are keen to encourage early engagement between senior leaders and their legal team rather than the lawyers being instructed after a problem has crystallised as a last resort.
