With a decline in pub visits, there's been a noticeable impact on the purchase share of classic pub fare, according to recent data from Lumina Intelligence Eating and Drinking Out Panel. Chips/wedges/fries and burgers have seen a dip of -9.9ppts and -8.4ppts respectively. This trend highlights fewer pub occasions, which are directly influencing the demand for traditional favourites. sweetgreen has been the longstanding darling of proponents of "healthy" fast food. It's also had a remarkably long run both as a privately held and now almost three years a publicly traded company that has yet to turn a profit. Businesses can only lose money for so long and now sweetgreen seems to have sold out in a near last ditch effort to change that: adding fries and desert to the menu after a decade of a focus on salads. (the recent effort to add steak to the menu didn't seem to do the trick). It's not clear to me if the remaining fans of Sweet Greens will be excited about having fries with their salad and boost the company's revenue. It is yet another business lesson that the real win is to make food we like healthier for you (through better recipes) rather than getting people to choose a "healthy meal" more often. #healthyfood #salad https://lnkd.in/g5rWdMX3
