⚠ Microsoft Licencing is changing ⚠ You may have heard that Microsoft has unbundled Teams from its licences, meaning you can now purchase it separately across M365 and O365 licences. We have seen this cause confusion for customers looking to renew and unsure what the best option is for their Microsoft estate. Focus Group recommend auditing your current licence estate to make sure you know exactly what you have now, how much you’re paying and how much those licences are actually being used across the business. We can do this through our Effective Licence Position Assessment 👉 https://lnkd.in/dvAcVryj If this is something you think your business would benefit from, drop me an email with the subject ‘ELP assessment’ to madeline.pidwell@focusgroup.co.uk

Software Assurance is NOT: — "Support" — "Maintenance" — "Upgrade right" Software Assurance is an add-on subscription license. Look at the image. There are NOT "benefits". These are usage rights granted only with Software Assurance. For many, they are business-critical. Why are we posting this? Every week we hear from a confused procurement person: "We'll cancel Software Assurance and keep perpetual licenses." Unfortunately, you are not "cancelling Software Assurance". You are giving up usage rights granted via subscription add-on licenses. Here are the consequences if you cancel SA: — No Bring Your Own License, no Azure Hybrid Benefit = more expensive Cloud — No remote desktops for "Work from home" — No discounted edition upgrades (Step-Ups) = more expensive upgrades — And more 99% of organisations would instantly become non-compliant if they cancel SA. #Microsoft pulled a very clever trick. This is a great illustration of why large enterprises have to re-think the L/SA model from Microsoft. Purchasing licenses as an asset that can be capitalized might be desirable in the short term, but if the software is only used in a way that requires SA (i.e. unlimited virtualization rights), then why not just buy the subscription license from the start?
