Key Term Tuesday: Redlining Why I Chose This Topic: Redlining is a practice that has caused long-lasting economic disparities by preventing communities of color from accessing loans and home ownership, perpetuating racial inequality. Why It's Important: Understanding redlining helps us see how historical and current policies continue to shape housing inequities and limit wealth-building opportunities for marginalized groups. DID YOU KNOW 🚨 1️⃣ Racialised people are disproportionately experiencing homelessness and overcrowded housing across England. 2️⃣Black households are 11 times more likely than white households to be in temporary accommodation. 3️⃣ Racialised people who rent their homes 22% more likely to suffer damp or mould in their housing. No matter our postcode or first language, we all recognise unfairness when we see it. Right now, inequality literally starts at home. Millions across the UK are facing deep-rooted inequalities when it comes to housing. Racialised people are disproportionately impacted. This is wrong. This #BlackHistoryMonth, we need to reclaim the narrative: to have a fair society, adequate housing cannot be a privilege, it must be a right. We need for the right to housing to be recognised as a human right in domestic law, policy and practice.

𝗣𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆. It’s a daily battle against a lack of opportunities, dignity, and basic human rights. It's about the countless barriers that prevent people from accessing education, healthcare, and decent living conditions, all while stripping them of their voice and potential. The focus this year is on tackling social and institutional injustices that continue to fuel the cycle of poverty. These injustices are lived experiences for many, manifesting in systemic discrimination, unequal access to resources, and policies that perpetuate inequality. So, what can you do? Start small by lending a hand to someone in need, educate yourself on the deeper causes of poverty and support organizations dedicated to fighting these injustices. Every action, no matter how big or small, can make a difference in someone's life. #endpoverty #socialjustice #actforchange #povertyawareness #togetherforchange #makeadifference #worldpovertyday
