Private investors are able to profit from the homelessness crisis to help solve it by investing in supported housing. What this means is that the government funds a series of housing providers, charities, and care companies to provide care and housing for vulnerable people in society. These people could be homeless, victims of domestic abuse, ex-addicts in recovery, children leaving care, asylum seekers across the whole spectrum. There’s a funding package from the government to house and care for these people. The care providers that are funded to do this need houses to put the people in. Where this intersects perfectly is, as in investors, we’re able to buy these properties and then lease them to the care providers. That in turn, gives us a government-assured income whilst at the same time, delivering a much-needed service to those people who need it by providing housing. We find ourselves in a really fortunate position with this because we are in a business that: 1. Makes profit. 2. Makes a material social impact.

The housing crisis is escalating, with far too many people unable to find an affordable place to call home. Some are even being forced out of their homes. We’re doing everything we can to help by stepping in where government efforts leave off, providing essential support tailored to each community's needs. 🏠💙 With a mission to resolve issues one neighbour in need at a time, the SSVP’s approach helps prevent and survive homelessness, and even provide subsidized housing, like in Victoria, BC (https://lnkd.in/eDJACp33). Together, we can tackle this crisis, one step, one home, one life at a time ➡️ ssvp.ca/programs/housing/ #SSVP #ServeInHope #nonprofit #giveback #MakeADifference #ImpactNow #ChangeMakers #BeTheDifference

Our night shelters have received more than 1000 referrals for men and we are about to reach 500 for women. This number is completely unprecedented, showing the huge growth in demand for our services. It is also in line with the wider trend of rising homelessness in London. The GLA’s latest Combined Homelessness And Information Network (CHAIN) report showed a 23% increase in rough sleeping compared to a year before, while the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities’ latest rough sleeping snapshot showed a 32% increase in London. We receive referrals from individuals, other charities and government services. We boosted our service provision significantly this year, but the enormous number of people without a safe place to sleep is simply more than charities are able to provide for. We will continue to support to as many people as we can, but ultimately the only way that the problem can properly be tackled is through government policy. With a General Election taking place this year, we urge all parties to make housing and homelessness a top priority.

Every person deserves a secure and safe place to call home. Jonathan is a tenant supported by St Petrocs. His story is a poignant reminder of how life can change in an instant, leading to unforeseen challenges such as homelessness. After the loss of his mother and subsequent eviction from their shared home, Jonathan found himself homeless. With the supportive network of our charity partners St Petrocs, Mustard Seed Property (MSP) provided him with more than just a roof over his head – we offered him a lifeline. “I now have an address so I can look for work and I have a safe home. It was a challenge sharing a house, but it’s the only answer when you have little hope of getting back into employment or housing.” Through our latest share offer, we aim to raise further investment to ensure more individuals like Jonathan in Cornwall can escape homelessness and reclaim their place in the community. Find out how to invest: https://lnkd.in/ejSaBPx2 This investment is not regulated by the FCA, nor covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) nor the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOR). The investment is not readily realisable, which means it may be difficult to sell and you may get back less than you originally invested, and returns are not guaranteed. #cornwall #homelessness #homelessnessawareness #safehome #supportedhousing #socialimpact #impactinvestment #impactinvesting #socialimpactinvesting #housingcrisis

⏳ Every four minutes, a young person in the UK becomes homeless. That’s over 370 young people every day - 136,000 young people every year. And it’s going to get worse. As the colder months approach, LandAid is launching the Every Minute Matters campaign aiming to raise £1.36 million, helping thousands of young people facing homelessness. The equivalent of just £1,000 for every young person, these funds will support charities working with young people in crisis, as well as those desperately trying to access move-on and independent accommodation. We’ll also be helping young people find and keep work too. This is part of our new strategy to #EndYouthHomelessness, but we can’t do it alone. The #PropertyIndustry has a unique opportunity to step up and change lives. It’s tough for many of us right now, but what those 136,000 young people are facing is a whole different kind of tough. By supporting LandAid, you’re not just addressing an urgent housing crisis – you’re building long-term solutions that will break the cycle of youth homelessness and provide a better future for our young people. Get in touch with me or the team at partnerships@landaid.org to find out how you can help. Together, we can ensure no young person is left without a home. Now is the time to do something extraordinary. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eavKujn8 Alice Lamb, Neil Slater, Gareth Pettit, Tim Hudson Chart. PR Claire Bavister (nee Stone)

Did you know that there are more homeless children in the UK now, than there are people in Ipswich? The number of homeless children in the UK is at a record high. Last week the BBC reported that there are 151,630 young people in this country without a stable home. These rising figures clearly signify an urgent need to reform our overstretched social care system. Now more than ever, investment in charities like The Big House can help to intervene and alleviate the problem. 50% of the young people who come to The Big House do not have a stable home. Part of our mandate is in supporting them to find secure housing. Through a combination of direct advocacy/advice and addressing tangible barriers, we ensure post the completion of a Big House project, 100% of those who arrived homeless are in suitable, safe accommodation. If you or your company are interested in supporting our mission, see the various ways in which you can get involved here: https://lnkd.in/epf3diNn

The latest homelessness stats have been released and they paint a bleak picture. More children than ever are experiencing homelessness in England, including here in Greater Manchester. Too many young people are at critical stages of their young adulthood without the safety and security of a home. This disrupts learning, it disrupts relationships and it disrupts lives. We hope the new approaches that the new Government has tabled, especially their plans for housing, will provide some positive news in the months ahead, but as these figures show, there is a national crisis taking place. In the past five years, the Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity has been able to fund over 78,000 nights of accommodation in our A Bed Every Night scheme for those who would otherwise have been sleeping on our streets, but we must do more. Everyone has a human right to have shelter and to feel safe. No one should be without a home, and we must continue to provide as much support as possible to those made most vulnerable by our society. Every donation we receive is vital to achieving this goal, allowing us to share funding where it’s needed most across each of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. Businesses can help support through corporate donations or by installing one of our ‘Tap to Donate’ machines at till points. To help us, please donate today: https://buff.ly/3uZMvs8

Once again, the number of children experiencing homelessness has risen. In Greater Manchester, that's 7,679 children living in uncertainty and disruption. At the same time, we've seen a rise in the number of households owed a relief duty by their local authority. In other words, a rise in the number of households who are currently homeless. Genuinely affordable housing, meaningful preventative work, and full wrap around support to people without a home or facing a night on the streets are some of the raft of measures needed to truly end homelessness, and truly eradicate the need for rough sleeping. Greater Manchester Mayor's Charity are proud to support so many dedicated organisations in the city-region working hard to bring about real change, but we depend on the generosity and support of the businesses and people of the region to do that. If you can, help us be a lifeline to organisations on the frontline. https://lnkd.in/eH-Y9J9R We'll keep advocating for them, supporting them, and getting as much funding to them as we possibly can. Together, let's end #homelessness.
