The State of Michigan has updated the recommended parameters for investigating common petroleum releases. On April 10, 2024, the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), Remediation and Redevelopment Division (RRD), released an update to the Recommended Parameters for Common Petroleum Products, (Appendix B of the Application of Target Detection Limits and Designated Analytical Methods guidance document, which can be found at the RRD Resource Materials webpage). For example, the recommended parameter list for Light Distillate Oils (e.g., diesel, fuel oil, heating oil, kerosene, & jet fuels) now includes sec-butylbenzene, tert-butylbenzene, and n-propylbenzene. The recommendation to analyze for the 1,2,3-trimethylbenzene isomer has been dropped.
