We are building on our strong relationship with India, to unlock more opportunities in the UK. Today I welcomed some of India’s senior business leaders to Downing Street. We discussed my government’s focus for our Plan for Change: to drive economic growth and deliver more money in people’s pockets across our country.
Not sure who does your communications (including SM posts) but my jaw drops when I see you continue to peddle this “deliver more money in people’s pockets“ message. Since coming to office, you have a proven track-record of under-delivery combined with some big fat porkies - including lining the pockets of your union paymasters while hiking taxes and IHT which impact hard-working people, entrepreneurs and small business owners in significant ways; the winter fuel fiasco; and now Waspi payouts (not!). While I am all for fostering greater investment (much of which was already in train before the election), don’t simply penalise those people who have bothered to have a career or run a business but instead take a much closer look at the significant % of the population who are claiming some sort of out-of-work benefits (many will be genuine but certainly not all and the freed up £millions will help you get people into / back into work and fuel growth). And now I see ONS data showing that more than half of people in the UK receive more in benefits than they contribute in taxes - extraordinary and time to get a grip! It’s also worth adding that the blame-game narrative is getting so tedious - just own the problem and get on with it!!
Building strong relationships, you say? Perhaps the business leaders you welcomed could also shed light on the systemic issues in their backyard. Human rights violations against minorities, censorship of dissent, state-sponsored polarization, and the deep-seated corruption that stifles genuine progress—are these the values we're unlocking opportunities with? The Modi government has turned a blind eye (or worse, an enabling hand) to these atrocities. From bulldozing democratic institutions to weaponizing religion, India’s track record under its current regime should give any ethical leader pause. By all means, invite the business tycoons who profit while millions suffer, but let’s not pretend this is about “economic growth” for the people. It’s about power and profit—just not for the ones who need it most.
Having and using a Good National Health Service is not socialist. Having a Safe and Healthy Workplace is not socialist. Having access to Good Teachers and Eduction is not Socialist. Having a Good Working Living Wage is not socialist. Having Trade Union representations is not socialist. Having good affordable Housing is not socialist. And Having a democratic elected People's Labour Government is not socialist. But denying others all these, is Capitalisum and Current Conservative Supporter policy.
Given that the UK is in such a mess and the OAPs are being made to pay through the nose for it. Why are you giving millions to other countries in aid? Notably farmers in other countries whilst taxing our own Farmers to the point they will have to sell up to pay taxes when someone dies? Business and growth strategies will bring economic wealth to any country. Persons who have no knowledge of these functions will never bring economic growth to the UK. However I do not think either you or your cronies care.
Not seeing this rosy future Labour keep telling us about, NI is up stifling business, productivity is down, whilst the UK gifts >£50 million this year in foreign aid (in one form or another) to a nuclear capable country with a larger military than the UK and a space industry! Surely we should be seeking India's investment in the UK not the UK investing in India. Plus, how many migrants does India accept? We give too freely.
No one believes you Keir. Not even you.
The Commonwealth and India are highly important to the UK's global economic and strategic future!! That includes the UKs influence and participation in the Quad alliance, and I do believe the UK has the lease or will have it, for Diego Garcia, dominating the Indian Ocean. Well done!
Why oh why is Britain still sending Billions in aid/ money yo India when they have their own Space Program? You could use instead to stop pensioners freezing this winter!

1wIs that why so many people from India are looking to relocate from India to the UK? We get a huge number of applications from people seeking to relocate yet their own country is cash rich and successful, unlike ours now sadly. Along with people from all over the world who openly say it is so easy to get a work visa or dependant visa in the UK. Focus on the UK, The UK economy, The UK people and what the UK needs rather than constantly flying off to other countries and giving our tax payers money away, never for US but happy to give it freely to anyone else. You are taking away peoples money here, more every day but giving nothing back
