Chinese banks are expanding their presence at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). As of now, eight Chinese banks, including the Bank of Communications Co.,Ltd., Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), have established offices there. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance their business operations in the region. Additionally, Chinese banks are actively issuing bonds on Nasdaq Dubai, with proceeds supporting various projects in the UAE and beyond.

Dubai's DIFC attracts surge of Chinese financial firms Dubai reported a surge in interest from Chinese financial firms and multinational companies in 2024, as the Gulf financial hub continues to gain prominence as a strategic gateway to the region. The top five Chinese banks, including Bank of China and ICBC, now operate in the Dubai International Financial Centre, collectively contributing over 30% of its banking and capital market assets, according to a 17 Dec release. DUBAI – Nasdaq Dubai has announced the successful listing of a US$400 million Floating Rate Note issued by the Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) through its Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) branch. This listing, under the bank's US$15 billion Medium Term Note Programme, is set to mature in 2027 and marks the bank’s second bond listing on Nasdaq Dubai. The HKMA and the Central Bank of The UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to enhance co-operation between the Hong Kong and UAE financial services sectors. 🤝 Under the MoU, the two authorities aim to develop connectivity between the debt capital markets, enhance the exchange of expertise, facilitate cross-border debt securities issuances, and drive more investment activity in both markets. The agreement will also strengthen Hong Kong’s role as a gateway to both the Renminbi (RMB) and international debt markets. The two leaders, Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA, and H.E. The collaboration, structured under a Master Risk Participation Agreement, will use Mashreq's established network to provide US dollar liquidity for essential imports, addressing the growing trade finance gap caused by rising inflation and declining investor interest in non-traditional banking sectors.
