#TheEventEffect and festivals 🤝 🎪 There's been a lot said of late about a certain pop superstar who is currently on tour and the effect her tour is having on local (and national) economies. But it's not all about the mega star arena and stadium tours when it comes to #TheEventEffect. Events of all types create demand for hotels, including festivals, as the ever insightful James Hanley of IQ Magazine has pointed out in this article about Primavera Sound Porto 🇵🇹 "Residents from outside the AMP [Porto Metropolitan Area] recorded an average daily expenditure of €397.87 in the city, with accommodation the most significant expense at €117.74 per day." Hotels are simply one of the biggest revenue opportunities that event organisers are, all too often, leaving on the table 💰 🏨 If you run events and want to open up a zero risk new revenue stream, drop me a DM to find out how with Bundl 📩 https://lnkd.in/eMgMav-y Mike Bayon | Lucy Greenhill | Emma McGirl | Jo Raftery | Joanne Dixon | Peter Antoniou #TheEventEffect #hotels #festivals #primaverasound #portugal #porto

FEST TALK & TIPS For Festival Professionals April 21, 2024 TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETS Last year we talked briefly about making street performers a part of a festival or fair program. I think we should dive a bit deeper into this idea since street performers at an event really can enhance the atmosphere and offer lots of benefits at a reasonable price. Here are ten reasons to include them: Entertainment Value: Street performers can provide lively and diverse entertainment, which can include music, dance, juggling, magic, and more. Their presence adds to the festive atmosphere. Crowd Attraction: Performers can draw larger crowds to the festival or fair, as people are often attracted to live performances and spontaneous acts. Consider placing them in areas with less traffic in order to build a crowd. Enhanced Experience: Street performances can make the event experience more memorable for attendees by offering unexpected moments of fun, photo opportunities and direct engagement. Interactive Opportunities: Many street performers interact directly with the audience, offering participatory experiences that can be especially delightful for children and families. Fill in Gaps: Performers can fill in the downtime between scheduled events or performances, keeping the energy high, holding the crowd and ensuring there's always something happening. Promotes Local Talent: Local artists and performers get a platform to showcase their skills, which can help them build their reputations and followings. Economic Boost: Increased foot traffic generated by performers can lead to higher souvenir sales on-site and sales for vendors and local businesses around the festival or fair area. Flexibility: Whether assigned a specific street corner or strolling the grounds, street performers are typically adaptable and able to perform in various spaces and conditions, which makes them ideal for a festival or fair environment. Visual Appeal: The visual spectacle created by performers, whether through costumes, tricks, or elaborate setups, adds to the allure of the event, making it an even greater opportunity for those special KODAK moments to be shared on social media. Including street performers can be a strategic and effective way to elevate a festival or fair, making it more engaging and enjoyable for everyone involved. Give it a try. Celebrating Festivals: Bridging Cultures and Strengthening Bonds Festivals are more than just days marked on the calendar; they are moments that bring people together, celebrate traditions, and remind us of the shared joys of life. Across cultures and geographies, festivals play a crucial role in fostering connections and enriching lives. A Global Mosaic of Traditions From the vibrant hues of Holi in India to the luminous glow of Hanukkah candles in Jewish homes, festivals offer a glimpse into the diversity of human expression. They tell stories of resilience, faith, and community. Whether it’s Thanksgiving in the United States, Diwali in South Asia, or Lunar New Year in East Asia, each festival carries its own unique flavor, yet all share a common purpose: to unite and uplift. The Role of Festivals in Modern Society In today’s fast-paced world, festivals serve as a pause button, allowing us to reconnect with our roots and loved ones. They promote cultural exchange and understanding, breaking down barriers of language and geography. For businesses and communities, festivals are opportunities to collaborate, innovate, and grow. Strengthening Bonds: Festivals bring families and friends together, creating memories that last a lifetime. They also provide an avenue for younger generations to learn and appreciate their heritage. Driving Creativity: The artistry in decorations, the innovation in culinary traditions, and the creativity in storytelling during festivals inspire individuals and industries alike. Boosting Economies: From local artisans to global brands, festivals drive economic activity by promoting the exchange of goods and services. Celebrating Inclusivity Modern festivals are increasingly embracing inclusivity. Events like Pride parades and International Women’s Day celebrations highlight the importance of diversity and equality. This evolution reflects society’s growing commitment to ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated. Tips for Making Festivals Meaningful Engage Locally: Participate in community events to support local traditions and businesses. Learn and Share: Use festivals as an opportunity to educate yourself and others about their cultural significance. Be Sustainable: Celebrate in ways that are environmentally friendly, ensuring that joy today doesn’t come at the expense of tomorrow. Conclusion Festivals are a testament to the human spirit’s capacity for joy, connection, and resilience. As we embrace these celebrations, let’s remember to carry their lessons of unity and gratitude into our everyday lives. After all, life’s greatest festival is the shared journey we all undertake together. #snsinstituitions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

We celebrate many festivals all the year around. And quite a few of them entail statues of various deities being made. Their ‘sthapana’, ‘pran pratishtha’ is dutifully done. We take care of these deities as if they are real beings who have to come to stay with us for a specific period of time and subsequently their ‘visarjan’ is also done. Be it the ongoing Ganesh Utsav, upcoming Navaratri and Deepawali. Statues of all sizes come up- household ones of the size of a couple of inches, to huge ones placed in pandals. The basic ingredient used is mud. And in certain cases it is kachchi mitti as well. Invariably, once the festival is over, we pray the deity to go back to their respective place and we do visarjan requesting them to come back again next year. Of late in the past many years, probably owing to the the urbanisation and other related issues, the visarjan part is taking up a bad shape. Despite many orders from Hon Courts, still we are not able to find an apt solution for it. Many a times I find the small idols of deities just left at the doorsteps of temples, huge in number, creating not just empathetic situation but also a very sorry state of events. Will not elaborate on it, but I am sure we all are very well able to understand it. . So here is the problem statement:- Can we build up a mechanism of making such statues which are made organically, ornamentation also all organic, and it can be easily dissolved in water-100 percent?? So it does not go antagonistic to our faith and belief, and also it is ecologically vibrant? Capillary action is a common process through which water or any liquid rises up inside and takes its own course of action. So, can we design such idols? In this way we perform the ‘visarjan’ of our household deities at our own place. Consider this scenario- after the Pooja rituals we further take up the deity idol on a suitable place in our house, perform the ritual and the entire idol gets dissolved. Then the slurry May be dutifully offered to any tree nearby. High rise society can perform the same visarjan and plant a tree, year after year, in their premises. The pandal deity idols can be similarly taken up in ponds built up and assigned for this purpose. The essence of all this is in the design of idols. How quick can this capillary action be instigated. If any startup comes up with the design n manufacturing model personally I would be happy to support and invest as well 😊

Festival #Celebrations and #PersonalWellbeing 🕉️✨ Festivals bring joy, togetherness, and a sense of renewal. The Ganesh Festival, in particular, holds valuable lessons that go #beyondcelebrations, touching aspects of our well-being. Here are a few key takeaways: 🛠️ #PreparationMatters Just as we thoughtfully prepare for Ganesh’s arrival, taking small, consistent steps in our daily lives helps us stay grounded and balanced. 🌸 #EmbraceImperfections Decorations may not be perfect, but the love and effort behind them make them special. Similarly, life isn't always smooth, and that’s perfectly okay. 🏞️ #LettingGo Visarjan reminds us to release what no longer serves us—whether it's thoughts, habits, or emotions. A fresh start always awaits. 🤝 The Power of #Togetherness Coming together during festivals strengthens bonds and brings joy. Likewise, staying connected with loved ones can uplift us in ways we may not always realize. 🌱 #NewBeginnings Every festival marks a new chapter. It’s a gentle reminder that we can renew our energy and perspective any time we choose. Let’s use this festive season as a moment to reflect, rejuvenate, and nurture our well-being. 🙏✨ #GrowthHub #FestivalsAndGrowth #GaneshFestival #ReflectionAndRenewal #PersonalWellbeing

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated in Chinese culture. It is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.[1] On this day, the Chinese believe that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of autumn.[2] The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture; its popularity is on par with that of Chinese New Year. The history of the festival dates back over 3,000 years.[3][4] Similar festivals are celebrated by other cultures in East and Southeast Asia. During the festival, lanterns of all size and shapes – which symbolize beacons that light people's path to prosperity and good fortune – are carried and displayed. Mooncakes, a rich pastry typically filled with sweet-bean, egg yolk, meat or lotus-seed paste, are traditionally eaten during this festival.[5][6][7] The Mid-Autumn Festival is based on the legend of Chang'e, the Moon goddess in Chinese mythology.

What came first, the city 🏙 or the festival 🎎 ? Okay, it’s almost always the city, but when the right festival / platform finds its niche in the perfect place, the location is often forever changed as well. Cities and their landmark festivals share a symbiotic relationship. Just think of the perfectly paired duos of Art Basel and Miami Beach; SXSW and Austin; Coachella and Indio, California, Cannes Lions or Film Festival at Cannes. An interesting read where we see so many factors at play - the convergence of local + global, destination marketing, co-creation between culture creators and city makers. What are other key shows, events, festivals that have placed their hometowns on the global calendar... #culturemarketing #artbasel #globalevents #globalcalendar #destinationmarketing #festivals https://lnkd.in/dTA7GMfB

Do festivals bring the feel of festivity these days? Today is Ganesh chaturthi and I was not able to sense a marked difference from any other day except for the clay pillayar, colorful umbrella and puja items. A week before I ordered for kozhukkattai from the caterer to be delivered today. Early in the morning I was reminded of what my grandmother said. Yes, she used to tell what the flavor and fragrance of jaggery and ghee can add to the glory of the occasion. Decades back all festivals brought so much warmth and joy which every other person shares is diminishing and there is also a fear prevailing that our future generations could never even preserve the traditional values of every festival. Some few years back snacks for festivals were made at home and they were shared with the neighborhood; we were able to learn the goodness from others and do improvisations that made every occasion memorable and interesting. Nowadays it is mostly exchange of brands with the same taste and flavor making us feel why at all we exchange, leaving us confined to homes with OTT movies. Our taste buds becoming numb and availability of rich food stuffs and partying all through the year causing a sense of monotony and boredom, with no treat to our dopamine levels. Messages on social media do bring in the festive mood, but can we bring back those days when festivals were rejuvenating and refreshing? Let this Ganesh Chaturthi be a trend changer. #ganeshchathurthi #festivity #tradition
