Pls s/s. Push on the yellow underlined area, that says to use their tools. Ontario is not protecting its wildlife. Instead, they are pushing through destructive projects, that, if the laws were to work, would be turned down, and a BIG NO, would be attached. Pls use the template information, below, to put in your letter in the space provided. Just a quick copy, paste, and send. Thank you.❤ Guarantee that the monies would go to preserving this particular population of Blanding’s turtles or the other wildlife that depend on this watershed. The proposed quarry site lies on Crown land in the Robinson-Huron Treaty Territory. Members of Serpent River First Nation and others from relevant treaty communities have expressed issues with the consultation process. The potential devastating and long-term impacts of this project far outweigh any short-term and minimal economic benefits. Do the right thing, listen to science, Indigenous elders and community members and use your influence to reject the Darien Quarry permit. https://lnkd.in/gy_62epP

Big news out of the DOI today with the announcement of BLM’s final Public Lands Rule. This rule places conservation on equal footing with other uses of public lands, and recognizes the importance of managing ecosystem health to continue meeting the multi-use mandate set forth in the Federal Land Policy and Management Act. The overarching components of the rule are protecting intact landscapes, restoring degraded lands and waters, and making decisions based on science, data, and Indigenous knowledge. As stated in the prepublication of the final rule: “To assist the BLM in carrying out its mission and statutory mandate, this rule provides direction and tools to protect and restore landscapes and ecosystems and make decisions supported by science and data, assisting the agency in managing for resilient landscapes that support multiple uses and sustained yield of resources and preventing unnecessary or undue degradation of lands and their resources.” I think the restoration and mitigation leases are a particularly intriguing aspect of this rule. Happy #EarthDay! Today is a day when the #global community comes together to honor our #planet, reflect on the impact we are #collectively having on it, and take bold #action to protect a #livable world for all life. As we face the existential crises of #climatechange, #biodiversity loss, and continued #socialinjustices, Earth Day has become a reminder to the #world of our need to come together for collective impact and #boldaction to find a more #sustainable path forward for #people and #nature. During the past few weeks, the #federalgovernment has taken such bold action. One of the actions that is especially meaningful for me was the announcement of the Public Lands Rule by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). This Rule puts the #conservation, #restoration, #protection of U.S. #publiclands and #water, as well as the #stewardship of #Tribal #cultural lands on equal footing with other multiple uses. For more than four decades, extractive uses like drilling and mining have dominated BLM’s lands across the #West. That harmful dynamic has now changed. The Rule will allow for the conservation of tens of millions of acres of public lands by #2030. These lands—now critical for providing connective tissue for #wildlife moving between large #parks and other #protectedareas—will now be getting the stewardship they deserve. This is a long overdue and momentous #culture shift at an #agency whose lands provide some of the most critical #wildlands left in our country. I'm grateful to the leadership at The White House, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the BLM for their #vision, #commitment, and #courage to make these necessary conservation actions to protect our #ecosystems, preserve wildlife, and provide #environmentaljustice to adjacent #communities facing the mounting #impacts of a shifting #climate. The Wilderness Society, together with our #local and national #partners, has played a vital role in the realization of these important advancements. Our #collectiveaction and #commitment to preserving public lands and making them #accessible to all has made this Earth Day one of the most #memorable in the long-standing #history of this special day.

A solid report from the Board. The root cause is lack of planning at the tactical level to provide clear expectations to licensees. This is a widespread problem and while Forest Landscape planning is hoped to fill some of these gaps it will take a decade to cover the whole province.
#JustReleased - Board complaint investigation has found that the management of old-growth forests on Quadra Island needs to be improved to ensure enough old forests will be present on the island in the future. https://lnkd.in/gTa-UN9y
