In his introduction to JME 49.1: Transforming Teaching and Learning About the Holocaust, guest editor Wolfgang Schmutz gives a thoughtful and heartfelt reaction to how he believes readers might consider the articles in this issue situated within the ongoing violence in Palestine and Israel (and in many parts of the world) today. In the latest post on the Museum Visions blog, we give space for Wolfgang’s thought-provoking introduction and take a broader perspective on how readers of the JME, especially museum educators, might engage with scholarly work (like that within this issue) to take up ideas from these articles within their practice. In this spirit, MER board member Wade Berger interviewed Wolfgang for his sense of what it means to think about and apply broader themes to the day-to-day practices of running museum programs and designing museum learning experiences. There are many lessons that can be drawn from the recently launched Our Shared Humanity in Action exhibition at the #NelsonMandelaFoundation: – It reminds us that what individuals do inside institutions such as the United Nations matters and can have a profound impact on achieving justice – Every institution has its limitations, which is why solidarity across a variety of institutions and countries matters, as each can bring something unique to the overall effort, which can in turn have a multiplier effect We hope the exhibition inspires you to draw your own understanding of our shared humanity: https://brnw.ch/21wOpMi #NelsonMandelaFoundation #OurSharedHumanity

🌟 Spotlight on MEMORISE: Innovation Meets Memory 🌟 Esther Rachow, a PhD candidate at the European Forum, and Professor Tobias Ebbrecht-Hartmann are currently visiting the Bergen-Belsen Memorial in Northern Germany for the consortium meeting of the Horizon Europe project MEMORISE. 📜 This groundbreaking project is dedicated to making the heritage of Nazi persecution more accessible through digital innovation. As part of the meeting, a new exhibition was inaugurated, featuring art by former prisoners as a powerful lens into the complex history of the former concentration camp. 🎨 Research associate Noga Stiassny, an art historian, played a key role in curating parts of the exhibition, which highlights the work of Romani Holocaust survivor and activist Ceija Stojka. 💻 Visitors can also explore a newly developed interactive application, allowing them to delve into the details and compositional layers of prisoner art, connecting it to vital historical context. The MEMORISE project exemplifies how history, art, and technology can come together to honor memory and educate future generations. #EuropeanForum #BergenBelsen #HolocaustMemory #DigitalHeritage #MEMORISE #CeijaStojka #ArtAndHistory #NeverForget MEMORISE_EU Esther Rachow

Here a clip of our end of year OPEN exhibition: https://lnkd.in/d4GUVtCf Please come and visit! As part of the brief we ask critical questions that demand responses from creative thought and practice: How can we include the intricate and intimate relations between nature and culture? How can we record and respond to the changing terrain? How can we consider the participation of not just human communities and their livelihood practices that intersect with natural processes, but also of beyond-human entities and forces such as other creatures whose paths intersect with them?

Roots and Faces, 2018, solo exhibition inspired by Family reminiscences: The 'Roots and Faces' exhibition, inspired by family reminiscences, likely explores themes of identity, heritage, and personal history. These elements can evoke emotional connections and reflections on familial bonds, contributing to the depth and meaning of the artwork displayed. Tree forms are powerful metaphors in art, symbolizing how individuals connect to their families. They represent lineage, growth, and interconnectedness, reflecting family histories' deep roots and branching paths.
