This past week, the Hispanic Women’s League, alongside collective local Latino organizations, had the honor to present a $10,000 check to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Patient Care Services, thanks to the funds raised during the 11th Annual Salsa for a Cure event. Cancer is a deeply personal issue within our community, where 1 in 2 Hispanic men and 1 in 3 Hispanic women will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. It remains the leading cause of death among Hispanics/Latinos in the U.S., with significantly higher rates of cervical, stomach, and liver cancers compared to our peers, and worse outcomes for other types. For Hispanic/Latino women, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death, while for men, it is lung cancer. @mrssodak, Business owner states this is also a part of the mission at @startwithsleep, as the quality of your sleep is a protective factor in the potential risk, progression, and treatment of cancer. We are incredibly grateful for the life-saving work being done at Roswell, as well as for the support of our generous collective partners in this mission including: 💜Hispanic Heritage Council of WNY Inc. 💜Agustin “Pucho” Olivencia Community Center 💜Puerto Rican and Hispanic Day Parade of WNY 💜American Legion Auxiliary, Gabriel A. Rodriguez Unit 1928 💜Gabriel A. Rodriguez American Legion Post 1928 💜WNY Hispanic American Veterans Memorial Inc. For those seeking more information or support on cancer screening services, AMIGAS (“Ayudando a las Mujeres con Información, Guía y Amor para su Salud” – “Helping Women with Information, Guidance, and Love for Their Health”) is a bilingual program designed to increase cervical cancer screening among Hispanic and Latina women. It’s a crucial resource, as Hispanic women are 40% more likely to be diagnosed with cervical cancer—and 30% more likely to die from it—compared to non-Hispanic white women. I've had an incredible podcast conversation with Dr. Elizabeth Gomes dos Santos, diving deep into Jersey's Cancer Strategy—its aims, objectives, the context, and the journey that led to its creation. We explored its remarkable achievements in 2024 and took a closer look at Dr. Gomes dos Santos' background, her ambitions for the future, and her thoughts on innovative areas like AI, pharmacology, and new ways of working that drive real change and positive impact. The discussion highlighted how the Cancer Strategy is truly a *community strategy*, involving a wide network of organizations. While government departments play a part, the strategy also relies on the vital contributions of charities in Jersey and the UK, as well as organizations like Digital Jersey. Together, they embody a collaborative and cooperative approach to tackling one of the biggest challenges of our time—improving outcomes for our island community. This conversation was not just about cancer—it was a broader reflection on community health and the importance of understanding what we can do for ourselves, as well as recognizing the critical role of screening. It also provided an insightful comparison between Jersey and other jurisdictions, uncovering both unique challenges and opportunities stemming from Jersey’s strong and vibrant community. Over the next few days, I’ll be editing and reviewing the podcast to ensure it’s ready to share. I’m aiming to release it within the week, and I’m excited about the possibility of creating a series of shorter podcasts from this conversation. These will focus on key themes like AI, pharmacy, self-care, patient support, achievements of 2024, and ambitions for 2025. This podcast is a must-watch for anyone looking to better understand cancer and its impact—not just on patients but also on families, practitioners, policymakers, and communities. It’s a reminder of the collective effort required to address this challenge and the opportunities for individuals and organizations to contribute. Stay tuned for the release! I’ll be sharing links to the YouTube video and audio here, on LinkedIn, and across other platforms. I’m confident that Dr. Gomes dos Santos and others involved in the Cancer Strategy will also help amplify the message, ensuring this vital conversation reaches as many people as possible. #CancerStrategy #CommunityHealth #AIinHealthcare #Pharmacology #SelfCare #JerseyCancerStrategy #Collaboration #Innovation #PublicHealth #PatientSupport #HealthAwareness #PositiveChange #JerseyCommunity

Last week was National Black Family Cancer Awareness Week. But, cancer doesn’t just matter during awareness days or specific weeks. It's essential to continue the conversation about cancer's impact on Black communities. A critical initiative in this regard is the Voices of Black Women Study, a groundbreaking research project dedicated to understanding and addressing cancer among Black women. This study, launched by the American Cancer Society, aims to delve deep into the unique experiences and challenges Black women face regarding cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. This study is more than just research; it's a call to action to amplify the voices of Black women and ensure their stories and needs are at the forefront of cancer care and policy development. Through this 30-year longitudinal study, researchers are hoping to gather insights into the social, economic, and healthcare barriers that Black women encounter in the cancer journey – and share those insights back with participants. This data will be used to advocate for improved cancer care services for Black women and more equitable healthcare policies. Does this sound like something you’d be interested in participating in? You can do so if 🔸 You are a Black woman between the ages of 25-55 🔸 You have never been diagnosed with cancer (aside from basal or squamous skin cancer) 🔸 You live in one of the following areas: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Thoughts on Cancer Survivors Month June is Cancer Survivors Month, a time to celebrate the incredible strength and resilience of cancer survivors around the world. Here are some practical ideas on how we can honor and support survivors this month: ♦ Share Survivors Stories: Use social media or local events to highlight and celebrate the journeys of cancer survivors. Personal stories can inspire and provide hope to others. ♦ Organize Community Events: Host events such as walkathons, fundraisers, or awareness campaigns to bring communities together in support of cancer survivors and research. ♦ Advocate for Policy Change: Engage in advocacy efforts to promote policies that support cancer prevention, treatment, and survivorship care. Encourage survivors to share their experiences with policymakers. ♦ Provide Resources and Education: Offer workshops or seminars on cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship care. Equip survivors and their families with valuable information and resources. ♦ Enhance Survivors Programs: Work with healthcare providers to develop or improve programs that address the unique needs of cancer patients at different stages of the cancer care continuum. ♦ Foster Survivors Networks: Create or join support groups and networks for survivors to share their experiences, offer mutual support, and advocate for their needs collectively. By implementing these ideas, we can make a significant impact in the lives of cancer survivors and advance the fight against cancer. Let's use this month to honor their courage and amplify their voices. #CancerSurvivorsMonth #Advocacy #CancerPrevention #SurvivorsVoices #CancerAwareness

Each October, the American Cancer Society nominates leaders across the country to join #MenWearPink, a nationwide breast cancer awareness and fundraising initiative. Each man is tasked with sharing vital resources with those closest to them, and raising funds to sustain groundbreaking research and support programs that remove barriers to care. THE GOAL: ensure that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to not only prevent, but detect, treat and/or survive cancer. Every one! To date, there are more than 4 million breast cancer #survivors alive today in the US. Unfortunately, more than 313,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women this year alone. So what are we doing about it? We're investing $78.1 million in breast cancer specific #research through 160 grants. We're fighting at all levels of government to protect funding for cancer early detection programs and expanded access to Medicaid because research tells us that the uninsured and underinsured are less likely to get screened for cancer and more likely to be diagnosed at an advanced stage. We're proactively addressing #HealthInequities by increasing #diversity in clinical trial participations. We're removing barriers to treatment like transportation and lodging. In 2023, nearly 75,000 cancer patients benefitted from ACS transportation support through the #RoadToRecovery program, with more than 816,000 rides provided as a result. We also welcomed 30,800 patients and caregivers into our #HopeLodge communities, providing more than 500,000 nights of free lodging. Because sometimes the best cancer care is far from home... The #Atlanta men tagged below have been working tirelessly all month to support our mission, and with the nationwide competition officially ending November 4th, they're leaving no stone unturned as they work to reach their fundraising goal. Visit https://lnkd.in/grMJCjB2 to check out the progress they've made towards their goal, and make a gift of support today. #MenWearPinkATL #Leadership #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth Daniel Berisford- Ricoh USA, Inc. As we move into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the recent New York Times article by Roni Caryn Rabin paints a critical picture of rising breast cancer rates, particularly among younger women and underserved communities. According to the American Cancer Society report she references, the incidence of breast cancer has risen sharply, especially among women under 50 and Asian American/Pacific Islander women. At Casting for Recovery, we are deeply committed to addressing the rising challenges faced by younger women and underserved communities who often have limited access to breast cancer care. Currently, one-third of the women we serve are under 50, and this demographic is our fastest growing group. This year, we proudly hosted our first-ever retreat in Hawaii, which saw a record number of applicants for an inaugural retreat, as well as a dedicated retreat for Alaska Native women. These efforts mark significant steps toward ensuring that women from all backgrounds, no matter how remote or underrepresented, receive the vital support they need during their breast cancer journey. No one should face this disease alone. This article highlights the critical disparities in breast cancer outcomes, particularly for Native American, Alaska Native, and Black women, who continue to face lower survival rates due to limited access to timely screenings and quality care. At Casting for Recovery, we are focused on breaking down these barriers. Our retreats go beyond physical healing, offering participants the restorative power of nature through fly fishing, while also providing crucial medical oncology, emotional, and community support. This holistic retreat experience empowers women to not just survive but thrive throughout their breast cancer journey. As we move forward, Casting for Recovery is dedicated to expanding our impact, growing our programs, and continuing to serve the women who need us most. I encourage everyone to read this important article and join us in making a difference this month and beyond. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #WomenSupportingWomen #CastingForRecovery #HealthEquity #UnderservedCommunities #BreastCancer #flyfishing #natureheals Link to article: https://lnkd.in/gdgahXeW

Our Mission "We want to help other women with this disease as we would want to be helped ourselves." Our History The organization was founded in 1997 by four women with breast cancer who felt that this community’s assistance to women with their disease could be broader and more thoughtfully conceived. Specifically, these founders were moved by the pro-active approach and attitude of a close friend who had not survived. Goal 1 First, they envisioned a single site dedicated to women with breast cancer, a place where women would be treated with particular understanding of their needs with a medical team approach. Their vision, in addition to their fundraising efforts, contributed to the development of the Breast Care Center which Community Hospital of Monterey County (CHOMP) opened in 2002. Goal 2 Second they had helped each other with peer counseling through their early years with breast cancer. Their efforts contributed to the development of a Patient Navigator Program and several Cancer Support groups currently administered by the CHOMP Comprehensive Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society. Goal 3 The third objective of BCAG founders was educational, to supply relevant information about breast cancer to patients, survivors and their families through regular public meetings with guest speakers. When the entire breast cancer community pulls together, there’s so much we can accomplish. Last we were so privileged to work with amazing organizations, artists, advocates, and partners on a truly once-in-a-lifetime event that ended up being a hugely successful fundraiser. Reblossom is a beautiful coffee table book, created by @JonthanBankMD and photographer @ErezSabag. The book captures the poignant yet inspirational stories of 12 women who have been affected by breast cancer. We were tasked with creating a release party for Reblossom that would also serve as a fundraising event to benefit Living Beyond Breast Cancer, an organization that connects breast cancer patients and their care teams with trusted information and a community of support. The entire celebration was sponsored by Allergan Aesthetics. Coral Collective planned and executed a high-profile soiree at prominent NYC art gallery @LavanChelsea. The highlight of the glamorous event was a fully immersive exhibit. To help fuel the momentum on social media and more deeply engage with those who attended the event, we also created an innovative filter that superimposed artful flowers over a selfie or an image. The event was a huge success, drawing a crowd of more than 1,000 people. The Reblossom book sold out completely sold out at the event, which generated more than $12,000 for Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Copies of Reblossom are still available for purchase on the LBBC website, with 100% of proceeds going to support the breast cancer community. #bigagencyattitude #womenowned #digitalmarketing #latinaowned #eventmanagement #breastcanceradvocacy #empoweredwomen #reblossom #successstories #livingbeyondbreastcancer
