Last month, we had a powerful session with partners from across the country to discuss a broader call to talk about collective care. The idea that we all have a role to play in the care of the nation's children and families is a practice and the wisdom that has been held by generations of communities across this country. It also turns out that it is an important strategy for the road ahead. We are all connected, our health is interdependent and so it is far past time for to build that recognition into our systems and structures. It requires us to call on our government to show up in different ways and invest in the resources and infrastructure that will enable every child to grow up in families that are well and it requires our leaders and resource decision-makers to make care a priority. So grateful to be joined by these amazing partners. Andrew Volmert, senior vice president of research at the FrameWorks Institute David Alexander, president at Leading for Kids Erica Phillips, executive director at the The National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) Child Care Julia Sosa, parent leader representative from United Parent Leaders Action Network (UPLAN) David Alexander offered his own perspective on why we must engage in collective care below. I share these sentiments Tekita Bankhead, M.S. (and now I think you should share with me how I can get a copy of this photo lol)
During this season of gratitude, I remain grateful for my The Posse Foundation RF community for the last 5 years! This talented group is filled with award-winning authors, lawyers, educators, activists, therapists, consultants, artists—simply overwhelming brilliance. It’s also filled with some of the kindest, most generous, most loving humans I know. Looking forward to another wonderful retreat season impacting scholars across the country!

August is Civic Health Month, a nationwide celebration held to showcase the strengthening relationship between health care, healthy communities, and civic participation. Civic health refers to how communities come together to identify and address public issues, as defined by the National Conference on Citizenship. It is measured through social connections, community involvement, and political participation. The Wisconsin 2024 Civic Health Challenge encourages residents to actively contribute to their community's civic health through daily challenges centered on four themes: social connection, community connection, voting, and political engagement. https://lnkd.in/gSJ4KSrW

Have you signed up yet for our upcoming learning experience on Decolonizing Trauma-Informed Practice? This is an offering you will not want to miss, facilitated by Sabrina Meherally and sahibzada mayed (صاحبزادہ مائد). Throughout this session, we will critically examine existing frameworks and paradigms, aiming to dismantle institutionalized approaches to trauma that contribute to the pathologization of people’s lived experiences. By exploring the origins of common trauma-informed practices and the significance of the liberatory harm reduction movement, we will contextualize trauma within an abolitionist and anti-colonial context. Through thought-provoking reflections and creative prompts, we will imagine alternative pathways, emphasizing non-prescriptive, non-pathologized, care-based methodologies that prioritize individual agency and community empowerment. Registration is still open: https://lnkd.in/gsg7vcB9
