Today marks the beginning of the Estimates Hearings in the Queensland Parliament. For those, like me, who follow this process every year, the examination of the Appropriation Bill (the Budget in layman’s terms) will occur over the next couple of weeks. However, for those who only take a casual glance, you might be interested to know and follow along. 🏛️ Seven (7) committees review the budget estimates, hence the name, of their respective portfolios. More details here: https://lnkd.in/gDj9Y7eK 🏠 For those interested in estimates around the Housing, Planning, Local Government and Public Works portfolio, this is scheduled for Wednesday (this week). The agenda for that session can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/gczF33_s 📺 All of the estimates sessions are streamed online at Queensland Parliament TV: https://lnkd.in/gXEA5wqZ #StateBudget #Queensland #EstimatesHearings #Housing #Planning #LocalGovernment #PublicWorks

Did you know that your annual property taxes fund only about 25% of the City’s budget each year? The rest comes from things like user fees, self-sustaining business units, grants from other levels of government, and reserves and investments. Look behind the City budget: https://lnkd.in/gcsSAczf The 2025 budget builds on last year’s service-based budgeting approach, which organizes operating and capital spending by service area rather than departments and divisions. Essentially, a service-based budget shows exactly what our government does, how much it costs to deliver the service, and what the trade-offs are if other services are prioritized. Earlier today, Mayor Donna Deegan presented the 2024-2025 Budget to the Jacksonville City Council. It consists of a $1.9 billion general fund budget and $489 million in the 2025 portion of the Capital Improvement Plan. This balanced budget will not only allow the City to build upon its recent success, but it will also make generational investments in her key priority areas: infrastructure, health, economic development, and public safety. It also reflects a rock-solid commitment to public safety and critical quality of life initiatives that have strong bipartisan support. “Our proposed budget makes investments that deliver the best return for our citizens, continue to make good on the broken promises of consolidation, and create the ignition point that will take Jacksonville from potential to progress," said Mayor Deegan. "The time is now to choose what type of city we want to be. Let’s be one that lifts as we climb.” 🔴 Budget address video: youtu.be/vWagsntKCNM 🔴 Budget address remarks: https://lnkd.in/ecrPjinK 🔴 Proposed budget: jacksonville.gov/budget
