It’s one of the most raw, honest and personal conversation of this season so far!  I loved speaking with Uma Thana Balasingam, founder of Elevate. We talked about her journey of wanting to be a pianist to entering into technology, becoming a successful sales leader to launching LeanIn Singapore and most recently starting ELEVATE. We spoke about so many things ranging from confidence to visibility to sponsorship and much more. It was hard to pick key takeaways, here are my top 3: - Be Your Own Champion: Don't wait for others to recognize your potential. Embrace your talents and skills to build visibility and confidence. Owning your journey is crucial for personal and professional growth. Love what (who) you see in the mirror - Diverse Mentorship: Instead of relying on one or two mentors for everything, seek out different mentors for various aspects of your life and career. This multifaceted approach enriches your perspective and support network.  Remember that we are all human beings and we love helping each other. - Define Your Rich Life: Success is personal and evolves over time. Regularly reassess what success means to you and set your own criteria for a fulfilling life, adapting as you grow in your career and personal life.  Look for micro moments of arrival – the impact you make in other people’s life! Leadership doesn’t equate to Busyness! But so many women of color are up to their heads with daunting, non-energizing work with a false sense of importance and security because they have full email boxes and meetings on the calendar back to back without a break to eat or pee! 🍽️🚽 They are thinking, “I must be a value add to this organization!” ❌ Wrong! It’s time we start limiting what’s on our calendars to only the things that have value and impact to the client, customer, patient, our families or ourselves. I remember when I went from an Admin to a Director level role, I thought I hit the jackpot 🎰 when I would be able to read emails all day and sit in meetings. I had this false sense of importance until I was burned out. 💢 I wasn’t spending the time I desired with my family. 💢 I wasn’t take care of myself physically or emotionally. 💢 I was busy, but it was just that - busy work. Sometimes we think this is what we are supposed to do, because if we don’t we will be overlooked and untapped for leadership opportunities . ❌ Wrong again! When you focus on valuable and impactful work while building relationships that support you in your career, you are able to advance your career much further and faster while maintaining work life integration.
