Big Co-Op purchasing update in Louisiana: HB878 has cleared both chambers of the legislature and has been signed into law by Louisiana's Governor. This legislation allows municipal and parish fire departments, volunteer fire departments, fire protection districts, ambulance services, municipal police departments, and other public safety agencies to participate in collaborative purchasing via approved group purchasing organizations. Soon these agencies will be searching on Pavilion to find and work with approved vendors selling off of TIPS, Buyboard, Sourcewell and dozens of other co-ops.

Communication conventions are sometimes downwind of technology. In this case, two spaces after a period was used to ensure there was enough space to denote the end of a sentence because of how typewriters registered keystrokes. So, sure, in 1945, two spaces was the hallmark of a trained typist. But modern systems automatically adjust kerning (that's the space between characters). In this case, the technology has made the old norm obsolete. Now, if you learned to type with two spaces after a period, that's ok. When my team edits, we use Word's find-and-replace function to purge them so we can maintain common style across documents. No need to bother retraining yourself. What you don't want to do is loudly proclaim your correctness in front of your comms team. We'll start referring to you as "Grandpa Simpson." ;)
