🌱 Concert Bio publishes 2024 commercial trial results 🌱 We’re thrilled to share the early results of commercial trials for our first product, Overture™. This product was developed thanks to years of collaboration with over 30 growers in the UK and internationally to identify beneficial microbes specifically for hydroponic and other soilless systems. The growers helping us trial this product have reported remarkable outcomes in lettuce crop performance. 📈 Key Results: 🔹 9.9% average increase in lettuce fresh head weight compared to untreated controls. 🔹 20.9% highest yield increase reported – a true testament to the power of beneficial microbes in controlled environments. 🔹 82% success rate - our microbes increased yield in NFT, DWC and Ebb & flow systems, across a wide range of organic and inorganic substrates. These trial results were made possible by growers all over the world helping us collect our data and test our products. We are hugely grateful to all of you, and so excited to make this product a reality for you. We're back from holiday just in time to share the latest news from Oasis Grower Solutions, A division of Smithers-Oasis Company. New OASIS RhizoPlug Tray singulated foam substrate is ushering in the future of precision vegetative propagation. (And we have to admit the roots on those plugs are pretty impressive!) OGS Director of Global Grower Operations and Research Vijay Rapaka shares that this next-generation, automation-ready engineered substrate proved itself in trials, with extreme uniformity, consistency and quality for superior young plants. Compared to loose fill and specialty substrates, the OGS team says RhizoPlug Tray delivered up to 20% faster times to root, extract and transplant. But Rapaka also stresses the cleaner propagation experience: “I cannot stress enough about the all-round cleanliness this product offers. This not only helps reduce pest and disease pressure and benefit the production of clean and healthy young plants during that immediate crop cycle, but also beyond that rotation with the next propagation cycles,” he says. "We are thrilled to offer every grower, large and small, an ultimate propagation experience from stick to transplant with precision, cleanliness and performance. Great article from Forbes showing how Yotes Court Vineyard has been using worm extract to improve the microbial life throughout their vineyard. This improves the ability of the vines to communicate with their environment through microbiology. Below is a quote from the article. "Tony explains: “The key principle of regenerative agriculture is to always maintain a living root in the ground. Plants excrete substances known as root exudates which are utilised by soil microbes and fungi which in turn symbiotically mobilise nutrients.” Wrom extract.... contains naturally forming microbes and fungi, fulvic and humic acids that boost those in the soil – a bit like a probiotic used for your gut. Tony said: “While we transition to no herbicide use, we are combining a substantial ratio of worm extract with the minimal amount we use, to counteract some of the negative effects." 🍅A Sweet Breakthrough for Tomatoes – Thanks to CRISPR! ✨ Tomatoes are one of the world’s most loved and valuable crops, but let’s be honest—most store-bought varieties "taste like water."  Thanks to groundbreaking research published in Nature, this might change! 📰🔬 Using CRISPR-Cas9, researchers targeted two genes—SlCDPK27 and SlCDPK26—which naturally act as "sugar brakes" in tomatoes. 🌱🍅 By editing these genes, they unlocked up to 30% more glucose and fructose, creating tomatoes that are sweeter, without compromising fruit size, weight, or yield.   This is/will interesting for different groups for different reasons: - For consumers: Sweeter, tastier tomatoes that bring back the joy of fresh produce. - For farmers & processors: Higher economic value and reduced costs for products like tomato paste, as less raw material is needed. - For science: A leap forward in understanding how plants regulate sugar, opening the door to similar advances in other crops.
