I'm very proud to be part of this feature length documentary. Mark continues to raise awareness about an issue that urgently needs addressing. If we continue to ignore the lack of working class voices in the screen industries, we are on the brink of UK media being created solely by the rich and well connected (or are we already there?). We need a level playing field now. #workingclass #tvandfilmindustry #discrimination https://lnkd.in/dtmheTUV

In my film `Quiet on the Set: The Class division in the film industry?` Filmmaker Jason Ruddy and I are both pessimistic and optimistic about the future of British filmmaking here in the UK. We both agreed that the organisations at very top need to start believing and supporting working-class people who are self-taught and did not necessary go to film school, but yet have a filmography because of their passion for making films! This really depends on your goals. Is your goal to connect with community and build audiences or to meet with agents and seek representation? You have to think about these. When you work on your film festival strategy, start with this tier of festivals. Look out for the “When” because that determines your premiere status. Then you want to look into niche film festivals like the Cascade Festival for African Films or the American Black Film Festival. Once these festivals respond look into your local film festivals. Also, set aside a budget for traveling.

I work with youth in a couple of African countries and I tell them, if you dont rise up to tell your story, then others will not only tell it but also write it the way they want to tell it. so study up, write your own stories. I give this advice to all youth that I speak with 1-1. Peace is a fancy word however it is not a goal to work for. Instead you work on fixing the structural issues and help your governments become organically stronger. To find peace, we must roll up our sleeves and get down to untangling in the weeds. I have seen that a lot of young people in these countries choose to study social work and end up working in an international NGO or some such organisation. It's so rampant that there is a dearth of young people across disciplines in these countries. The research output is really low - a serious problem that is one of the key focus of my work, and so I have to tell them - They ARE part of the problem. If they don't study the building blocks of their country and their communities, they cannot become the architects of their future. So they must go beyond being just a social worker and evolve to becoming a social scientist and pure scientists who can build reimagined futures for themselves. I encourage and inspire them to take up studies across all disciplines such as public administration, public policy, or public health so they can of direct help for their governments. Likewise, it is very heartening to see powerful and capable Palestinians picking up the reigns to tell their own beautiful stories out loud! to keep their identity and their communities from being erased by colonial mercenaries. For Gazans and other Palestinians who have lost their beautiful universities to the murderous apartheid regime - telling stories is the strongest way to rise up like a Phoenix as they build back and restore their history. The diaspora plays an important role in this massive restoration project. Really glad to see this happening right away! It's a good way to go! Reclaim the narrative and write new futures but don't destroy the history instead tell those stories juxtaposed, for history shows us which roads to be less travelled or never to be taken. Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. Those who selectively study history are also doomed to repeat it and those who erase history are also doomed to be lost in the sands of time. Empires that have done this no longer exist today in those forms and that is a lesson from history.

While the U.S. continues to be a central hub for film production, there is a notable increase in both the number of films produced internationally and U.S. film scenes being shot abroad. As more films are produced outside of the U.S., the need for #ForeignProductionInsurance is more important than ever! https://lnkd.in/gKwdrECk #ForeignFilmLocationRisks, #FilmsShotAbroad, #FilmAndTelevisionInsurance
