Is it part of the problem that we are designing our Aged Care digital strategy around a sector and not a person especially if the ultimate goal is for as many of us as possible to age in place? When do you become one of these ‘older people ‘ they are referring to in the strategy and are all ‘older people ‘ generic in the way they use the system? Shouldn’t the aged care digital health strategy just be part of a whole of system strategy designed around a cradle to grave journey. Cate Swannell for the Health Services Daily #strategy

Do you agree or am I off base? I've been reflecting a lot lately on how we share our work and connect with others in healthcare and research. It often feels like there's a bit of gatekeeping going on, doesn’t it? Why does this even matter to you and me in Biotech, Pharma, and Research? Here are a few of my thoughts: 1. Your work often stays within the walls of the lab and office. Finding new platforms to share your insights with a wider audience, including patients who might benefit directly from your findings, could really increase the impact and reach of your work. 2. In a world full of misinformation, being part of a community that prioritizes accurate, evidence-based content will make you stand out. We have a responsibility to provide reliable information, and this is a chance to do that on a larger scale. 3. It's easy to feel isolated in our work. Just imagine meeting new Data Scientists in Healthcare, Clinical Research Coordinators, Project Managers in Biomedical Research, Compliance Specialists in Clinical Trials, Biotech Data Analysts, Healthcare Innovation Experts, and Computational Biology Researchers... Connecting with other professionals in health organizations can open doors for endless collaboration and new ideas. We can learn so much from each other every day. 4. We often talk about our work behind closed doors and in technical terms, that can be hard for the public to understand. Building a community encourages you and me to explain our research in simpler, more relatable ways, making education more accessible. On a personal note, I'm just like you a woman striving for success and mastering my media accounts as a crucial self-marketing tool. Honestly, this new platform feels like a chance to be bolder and better. But it's not about the big words or fancy formatting, it's about being honest and helpful. We all have something valuable to contribute, and this post might be the place to start. Did you connect with this? Do you feel like I missed something or have tips to share? YouTube just launched it's Health Creator Community programme today. What is it? Who's it for? Why now? And what's the strategy here? What is it ❓ It’s an initiative to provide reliable and trustworthy health information on its platform. You’ve probably seen creators like Dr. Mike (Mikhail) or Dr Karan Rajan, but it also includes household names like Cleveland Clinic or our favourite Osmosis.org from Elsevier. Who’s it for ❓ 👨🎓 Individuals seeking health information: People looking for information about specific health conditions, treatments, or general wellness tips. 😷 Patients/Caregivers: Those seeking support and resources related to their health conditions or the conditions of their loved ones. 👩⚕️ Healthcare professionals: Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers looking for educational content or resources to share with their patients. Why now ❓ The issue is two-fold. 1️⃣ Public health institutions are grappling with the challenges of combating misinformation and disinformation on social media or traditional channels. This can undermine public health measures during crises like the pandemic. It has been shown that health misinformation can delay or prevent effective care, posing severe risks to individuals’ lives and vulnerable groups of the population. The issue is reach. 2️⃣ YouTube, despite its massive reach, has faced criticism for its handling of misinformation. More importantly, money talks, advertisers are very aware of brand risks associated with inflammatory material. While it has taken steps to address this, the platform alone cannot effectively police or create reliable content. (At least until Gemini gets an MD) What’s the strategy here ❓ 🤝 Partner - YouTube Health, like YouTube itself, generally does not create its own content (Sorry YouTube Premium). It partners with reputable health organizations to curate and promote trustworthy health information. This builds a robust library of content. Fostering healthy competition among creators, encouraging them to produce high-quality, accurate health content to gain visibility. 👨💻 Reach - YouTube – with over a billion hours of video streamed daily and wide-spread availability – offers healthcare institutions an unparalleled portal to diverse audiences. This reach can be leveraged to create content tailored to specific regions and populations, effectively addressing local health needs. YouTube can also serve as a powerful branding tool for institutions, attracting potential users and fostering engagement through video resources and community building. 💰 Monetize - Business-as-usual, YouTube gets the safe, vetted content it needs with minimal liability, advertisers are happy, creators gain a new source of revenue. Good strategy to supplement the fight against misinformation, excited to see what happens next! What are you views on this? Would love to hear your thoughts :) Sources in comments below #healthcare #youtube #branding #globalhealth #publichealth
