Collaboration of global pharmaceuticals and start-ups (see below). Very important topic that we always discuss with other entrepreneurs / companies / accelaration programs. Full of challenges but I observe a massive effort, commitment and courage. Fingers crossed for all such partnerships. We truly create new markets, solutions, processes together. 🤞

A truly enriching forum! Being able to listen and talk with so many world-class experts on such important topics like innovation in healthcare has been truly incredible. Additionally, having the opportunity to meet Dr. don goldmann in person and discuss about health education based on equity and social medicine was such an honor. Tomorrow, we continue with very powerful topics such as innovation in the management of HIV and cervical cancer, and especially a topic that interests me greatly: “Building trust in healthcare”. This last topic makes us, as academics, reflect on whether we are on the right path in the training of future healthcare professionals and if we are providing them with the right tools to effectively reach the populations that need us the most. Should we place more emphasis on social medicine, equity and interculturality in medical education programs? I firmly believe we should, but we will discuss it tomorrow. Thanks Duke Global Health Innovation Center, Innovations in Healthcare, Ernesto Ortiz & Lisa Bourget for this great Forum! . . . Universidad Científica del Sur

A thought (with rising global cases of new COVID-19 variant this summer) After all of these conferences/webinars/workshops/meetings on COVID-19, how much is the world better prepared for the next pandemic, including health systems? Will rich and capable countries(that hosted most of these meeting) share more of the global resources with poorer/less capable ones? Those investing in local capacity will see the real return (vs countries hoping for external support) Remember: a vision without a plan is a dream!

I had the privilege of presenting on a panel with Kathy Malas and Alain Larochelle at Digital Health Canada an inspiring event filled with individuals who are passionately dedicated to transforming our healthcare system. What stood out most was the resilience and determination in the room, despite the significant challenges many have faced. For some, it was navigating regulatory hurdles that delayed progress by months. For others, it was finding sustainable business models within a publicly funded system. And for many, the core struggle was bridging the gap between patient and healthcare worker needs and ensuring technology could truly meet those needs at the front lines of care. The most frequently asked question? How did you do it so fast? In just 72 hours, we launched a hospital-at-home program, and in only 10 days, we created a virtual hospital that connected two establishments. The answer? Crisis. In both cases, the urgency of the crisis forced us to find creative solutions and push through barriers that typically slow innovation. It revealed what’s possible when the system prioritizes agility and collaboration. But here’s the reality: the healthcare system remains in crisis. Building resilience isn’t just urgent—it’s essential. To move forward, we must: • Change incentives to reward innovation and outcomes. • Streamline regulatory approvals to reduce unnecessary delays. • Develop sustainable business models that work within the unique constraints of our publicly funded system. The path ahead begins now, and I’m inspired by all the leaders who are daring to innovate and transform because change is no longer optional—it’s necessary. Thank you to everyone in the healthcare community who is pushing boundaries and creating the future of care. Danina Kapetanović Sara Ahmed Emily Lecker Marie-Lou Gagnon
