Working in the defense industry is a complex and demanding task, it takes many restless days and nights to match the tempo of technological warfare and still, the most important task is to know that you are working in the right direction and that your product is effective and reliable on the frontlines, thus from time to time engineers have to go there themselves.

I have some questions I'd like to post here to see if I can get answers from my network. How are lower echelon maintenance cycles for weapons systems executed in the field or in combat? How do you know you need to take a system off the line and put in some maintenance on it? Is it simply just time or use bound? or that plus any observation of improper performance? What kind of gear do weapons system maintainers use in the field to validate that their lower echelon maintenance work on these systems has been successful? Does this maintenance gear require calibration? I'd be really interested in any comments that can help with this. I'm also interested connect privately for these discussions if that would be a better forum. In my lines of work I've been mostly in the category of "operator" in terms of gear. I'd like to learn more specfics from the maintainers out there who can tell me what happens to stuff after folks like me point out that we think it's broken. Thanks everyone!

Things mean different things to different people. In my job search, I run across people who tell me I should get a security clearance because I can “make a lot of money”. At Lockheed, Raytheon, etc… this is true. The engineers make more money, and they are designing essentially the same things. It doesn’t affect their daily lives. I had a clearance for a while…. I remember nightmares. Signing off on engineering with elevated risk to our sailors because “operational necessity” demanded it. Designing emergency egress, to be told “our lives are not important”. Finishing safety briefs on high powered systems by detailing the circumstances in which I’d cut lockout locks off and activate the system with people exposed. And “sorry guys, but you won’t have time to get to safety. You are gonna die”.

Myth #3 "Old electronics are not worth repairing" 🤦🏻 I recently posted photos of legacy military boards that were scrapped and it caused a lot of commotion here on LinkedIn (link in the comments section). Many argued that if a piece of technology is old it should be replaced on the basis that "our national security can't rely on obsolete designs". It's very worrying when we see this mindset developing in the new generation, among technical people who haven't really been exposed to the intricacies of legacy designs and why it's so important to repair old-looking devices that many programs rely on. Lack of repair down to IC level (a.k.a level 3) leads to hugely costly recertification sooner or later in the critical systems industry. #RepairDontWaste #ukmfg #electronics #pcb #repair #sustainability #circulareconomy #defence #aerospace #ABIRepairMyths

Great INSIGHTS and valued ARGUING of REPAIR vs WASTE, Willian Santos 🇬🇧. Waste and Recycling should in GENERAL be LAST RESORT, in IT/Telco as well as other domains. Not to forget HUMAN RESOURCES, as the most important. Change and REPAIR of people's Mindset is highly required. What if we should apply the same attitude for humans as we do for things? AI may introduce such a process as it comes into force in our lives. Will we resist? INDUSTRY 5.0 PREVENTS WASTE HAPPENING, in the first place - in any form or shape. Utilize Existing Resources, Materials and Human beings. People - hindered a meaningful life; too young/old, wrong gender/culture, religion/race, sexuality, physical and mental health, refugees, handicap/disability Terminate the attitude of USE & DISPOSAL, shield the true value of things and living creatures. i5.0 https://lnkd.in/dvUTZisZ
