TRANSFORMATIVE INDEED! CYBATHLON highlights the potential of exoskeletons in transforming lives. These devices promote active participation in neurorehabilitation, creating the optimal training for enabling sensory awareness through increased proprioception and activated dormant neural pathways through repetitive full weight-bearing stepping. Well, at least that’s been my personal experience with exoskeletons thus far. Since integrating robot-assisted gait training into my daily activity-based training routine in 2021, as part of research I’ve been involved with (400k steps), I've witnessed profound improvements and transformations in my health, function, and overall quality of life. Exoskeletons, from my perspective, are best for chronic mobility impaired individuals to start taking literal steps towards regaining and improving their functional independence, preventing secondary medical complications, and alleviating pain which all significantly improve quality of life. John Lee, the founder of RealDesignTech, has over 10 years of experience in developing indoor cycling technology. After a traumatic traffic accident in 2014, John couldn't ride on the road anymore, so he created a safe and realistic indoor cycling simulator called Ultiracer. This simulator allows Parkinson's disease patients, as well as those with Alzheimer's, Dementia, and ADHD, to cycle in a controlled environment, improving their symptoms and reducing their reliance on medication. Through partnerships with medical centers, John conducted clinical trials that led to the development of an algorithm with 86% accuracy in screening early-stage PD patients. RealDesignTech plans to register Ultiracer as an FDA Class 1 device and expand its supply to rehabilitation and physical therapy centers. They aim to conduct further clinical trials to gain insights into the biomarkers of Parkinson's Disease. Blodomloppet: Running for Life and Wellbeing! We are incredibly proud of our colleagues who participated in this year's "Blodomloppet" in Gothenburg, Sweden, on June 10. This exercise event, which gathered thousands of participants, saw representation from our colleagues across Sweden, Finland, and continental Europe. This demonstrates our strong community and our commitment to making a difference together, regardless of geographical boundaries - "The BIM Way of Working." Participating in Blodomloppet was not only an opportunity to promote health and well-being but also a chance to contribute to an important cause. Through our participation, we support blood donation, a life-saving effort that touches many people's lives every day. Whether walking, jogging, or running 5 or 10 kilometers with friends and workmates, the aim is to draw attention to the vital importance of blood donation and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Since the start in 1993, Blodomloppet has grown from two races with about a thousand participants to Sweden's largest recreational race with over 110,000 participants at its peak. The founders believed, “The future blood donors are among the exercisers. We will start a race and call it Blodomloppet.” In 2024, there will be at least 25 races in 24 cities.
