Giving Intentionally: How do you want things to change?   There are almost 2 million charities in the United States so picking the ones to give to can be a challenge. Looking at it another way, no matter how you want your donations to change the status quo, there’s probably a nonprofit making that impact. For example, if you would like everyone to have a safe place to call home, there are many ways you could work toward that goal: you could donate to end homelessness, assist first-time home buyers, or help the elderly remain in their homes longer. You could support the construction of affordable apartments or advocacy work aimed at changing the zoning laws. The different ways to approach the issue goes on. To paraphrase a popular quotation, if you can visualize the change you want to see in the world, you can support a nonprofit that’s making that change a reality. We believe that when you direct your donations to nonprofits that are creating  impact that’s a priority to you, giving becomes more meaningful, rewarding and joyful. Since we launched Community Funds in 2023, we've seen the incredible power of collaborative giving in action. The MatchNice Community Fund for Matching Grants showcases how people can come together to amplify their impact and reach shared goals. MatchNice is a donation matching fundraising platform with a mission to inspire more giving. Does your nonprofit seek a good deal of its financial support by offering up to its donors and prospects the most pathetic and tragic examples of needs being served by the organization? Even going as far as to publish and broadcast photos and videos of its saddest cases? Early in my career we called this "CHARITY PORN," and for good reason. Because of its very negative and exploitive approach, charity porn was rather rare. Today, however, it is the preferred way for several larger nonprofits to motivate it's donors to give, and to attract new donors. I am a believer that the average donor is not only caring, but smart. You as a nonprofit leader may be able to move someone to making a first gift by using charity porn... But, you won't be able to retain them using these tactics.
