Interesting voice and cache announcements from OpenAI. Open AI just announced the availability of realtime **Voice** that enables direct voice interactions with Chat GPT models. Integrating AI models into voice applications required previously several add-on components. Now you can send voice directly to OpenAI back-end and get voice back. It will still not be as fast as human, but bearable :). The cost will be from 6 to 24 cents per minute. Another interesting announcement is **discount on repeating prompts**. A lot of business process integrations have repeating instructions that may be very long to capture full human decision tree. If you send the same instructions to OpenAI within 5-10 minutes, consecutive instructions will have 50% discount on token pricing. This may be very attractive in high volume scenarios. OpenAI is gearing up to release Orion, a new AI model, by December, around the anniversary of ChatGPT. Foundation models are improving at a stunning pace - the new OpenAI model that does PhD level reasoning is a big step forward again. So my question is the following. Recently created AI first start ups focused on enterprise apps in certain categories (eg. Legal, call center etc) have huge valuations while many others are promising a whole new AI world. Being an AI enterprise application company these days is like being a little white dot in an intense game of PacMan. Yes some companies will create huge value and win - but I predict a much larger number will simply see their value add application just simply become obsolete because with a few smart prompts the foundation model will be able to replicate the app. 😱 What do you think ?
