Having a clear plan in place to reunite students with their parents or guardians after an incident ensures both safety and emotional recovery. Reunification can take many forms and be triggered for various reasons—whether due to an unexpected change in dismissal procedures, severe weather, or a larger emergency. Anytime a school modifies dismissal times or protocols, activating the reunification plan ensures consistency and reduces confusion. Successful reunification requires more than a plan—it takes practice, transparent communication, and coordination with local partners to ensure smooth operations. This stage of response marks the beginning of recovery for students, families, and the school community, laying the foundation for rebuilding trust and normalcy.
