No company is harvesting the thermal energy from volcanoes. I don’t get why. People say: it is too dangerous; it is too risky. So it is too risky if you aim to generate electricity and do something useful with the thermal energy of hot lava from volcanoes; but it is not too risky if you just run a tourist operation making a profit by allowing your customers a chance to see an active volcano up close? #geothermal
Do because you can. Do while you can. But excuse me if I don't join you. This is "volcano tourism" in Iceland. They'll let you get that close to the erupting volcano and it's clearly a popular attraction. I'm just not sure it's something I need me and my family to be doing....just in case. You might feel otherwise.

Douyin Trends: Travel to Yadan Ahead of China's Founding Day A trend of traveling to Yadan (雅丹 in Chinese) is gaining popularity among Chinese travelers. No, it is not the name of an ancient Chinese city, but a designation of a desert and mountainous area that is natural for the regions of Gansu, Xinjiang and the foothills of Tibet. Such destinations are also popular abroad, for example, in Egypt. The trend has gained over 36 million views on Douyin.

Here’s why I think heritage travel is important 🧠 Being part of the heritage community has allowed me to experience different cultures and meet so many people around the world but for those who are not familiar with this type of tourism I’m here to enlighten you through my experience ✈️ 1️⃣ culture appreciation 🤌🏾 I went on a tour in the Scottish highlands and had whisky 🥃 ice cream 🍦 😄 I got tipsy 🥴 but that’s an experience I don’t forget 😅😅 I truly appreciate that . 2️⃣ I personally feel connected to the local people whenever I have to learn about their history 👌🏾 from learning how to actually say (wee bit ) to eating black pudding 😅 or the fact that I know the lyrics to the isle of sky song 🎶 it makes me appreciate more the Scottish culture 3️⃣ we should not forget the preservation part of it all , with heritage tourism most tours are environmentally friendly and carefully designed to preserve the heritage sites , I always used my #historicscotland card to travel and actually contribute to the preservation of the sites or more like castles 🏰 I visited in Scotland 👌🏾 Lastly because of heritage tourism I have become more open minded 💕 Comment down below what I missed and what’s your favourite part about travel ✈️ Would you try a heritage tour? #heritageconservation #heritagetourism #opentonewopportunities #cheveningscholarship #scotland #environmentalprotection

In ancient Greece, agora meant 'a place of gathering'. The place where citizens came together to share ideas and talk about the issues of the day, politics and other aspects of society. In September of last year, Eleni Skarveli and Debbie Flynn organised their own 'Agora', bringing together a cross-section of the travel industry to discuss and debate the hugely complex beast that is sustainable travel. We met in Crete, which archeologists believe has been inhabited for 130,000 years. Walking around the ruins of Knossos certainly helped bring the concept of the Agora to life! This morning, many of those same travel professionals, journalists, communicators and innovators reconvened in London to begin the process of articulating our goals, commitments and the path forward. I am so inspired by this group of smart, driven and knowledgeable individuals who remain open to sharing ideas and learnings with each other, regardless of where people are on their own sustainability journeys. I've long been a fan of Greek mythology - in fact, I am in the midst of reading The Song of Achilles right now (it's beautiful, in case you were wondering). It seems oddly appropriate to me that, thanks to the Greek National Tourism Organisation I now find myself collaborating with like-minded individuals, in the true spirit of the Agora, about something I care as deeply about as sustainability. I hope that we can play our own small part in ensuring people are still living in Greece, and everywhere else on the planet, for another 100,000 years. #responsibletravel #sustainability #consulting #communications

Top 6 bucket list alternatives to combat overtourism 🌍 While more people than ever are keen on exploring the world (which we love!) some popular sites are starting to buckle under the weight of so many visitors congregating in that one ‘Instagrammable’ bucket list location. This has already begun to negatively impact fragile environments and ancient monuments that have up until recently stood the test of time. With governments and organisations like UNESCO starting to implement more rules and limits, and locals, whose everyday lives are impacted by an influx of tourists rallying for change, how can we travel more responsibly and lessen the strain without sacrificing once-in-a-lifetime experiences? It’s more simple than you might think… Read on > https://lnkd.in/eqy8n4is #travelinspiration #sustainabletourism #sustainabletravel #findyourwild
