Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve shared here, but I’ve been reflecting on how much I’ve learned and grown this year through my work in fire mitigation and with the Wildfire Partners team. I wanted to take a moment to share a bit about what I’ve been up to.
Starting in the middle of 2023, I had the privilege of redesigning Boulder County’s Chipping Program, overseeing resources, utilizing a significant budget, and working with incredible community members to create safer, more fire-resilient neighborhoods. I’ll post some of the data in future posts, but long story short, all of the hard work paid off, and people have been thrilled with the new program. Recently, we hosted an appreciation event for our Chipping Hosts, and hearing their stories about how this program has made a difference was truly inspiring!
I’ve often been content focusing on the work itself and haven’t shared much here, partly because I’ve worried about coming across as boastful. When I began my public safety career in law enforcement, I embraced a ‘put-your-head-down-and-get-it-done’ mindset, letting results speak for themselves. That approach served me well as an officer, but a recent conversation with a colleague reminded me that sharing our successes isn’t about showing off—it’s about contributing to the broader conversations happening within the wildfire mitigation community and sparking the discussions we need to have with the public.
Some of the strategies we’ve used in the Wildfire Partners program might be helpful to others working in this field. That’s inspired me to start posting more about my experiences, our successes, and the lessons we’ve learned along the way. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and sparking discussions with this incredible community.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to do this work and collaborate with so many dedicated people. And I’d love to hear from others—what’s been inspiring you in your work lately? Or if you have questions about fire mitigation or the programs I'm working on, please feel free to reach out!
