A wonder session Moderated by Mayowa Oniosun for the second series of the SDG AMP. He introduced the Facilitator, Alex Keagetswe Kgotlaetsile as an Education Lead, AU WGYD to present the topic "2063 Agenda the Africa we want". The brief History of the African Union (AU) starting from1963 as the Organization of Africa Unity (OAU) to 2002 when it became the AU. Talked about the visions and objectives of the AU and when the 2063 agenda was adopted in 2015. The 2063 Agenda was to provide the collective vision and roadmap to build a prosperous and united Africa, based on shared values and destiny. The AU operating structures was discussed starting from the Asembly, Executive Council, Permanent Representatives Commitee(PRC), and the Special Technical Commitee(STC). Also, the eight (8) Regional Economic Communities which are UMA, COMESA, CEN-SAD, EAC, ECCAS, ECOWAS, IGAD, and SADC were discussed. The AU 2063 Agenda was discussed stating the aims and structure as a 50-year development blueprint implemented through a 5, 10-year implementation plan. The Seven(7) aspirations of the agenda were discussed stating the decade of acceleration with the Implementations; theory of change, pathways, and enablers. With all this the roles of youths in the implementations were discussed. It was a wonderful interactive session. #SDG-AMP

The Power of Public Policy: A Call to Youths to Get Involved. ❌ Public Policy study is only for governments and their institutions. ❌ Public Policy study is only for international organizations. ❌ Public Policy study is only for academia and researchers. ❌ Public Policy study is only for interest groups. ❌Public policy study is only for journalists and media houses. ❌ Public Policy study is only for civil societies and NGOs. ❌ Public Policy study is only for think tanks. ❌ Public Policy study is only for key private sector players. These are all misconceptions. Public policy is one of the most powerful yet often misunderstood tools for creating and implementing change in society. It's not just for experts or institutions—it's for anyone including youths who wants to make a difference. Studying public policy has been an eye-opener for me. It has given me the confidence to stand tall, make my voice heard, and engage in meaningful conversations with conviction. There's something empowering about having the right knowledge that makes you feel equipped to contribute meaningfully to discussions about our future.Even the very informal ones. As we celebrate International Youth Day, I urge my fellow youths to develop an interest in public policy. It's not just another course, another certification or experience—it's a pathway to becoming an informed, engaged, and impactful citizen. Two down 🔥 !!! Third one coming 💯 to complete that rare treble of books in one year for one's scholarly career. From idea to reality. Two of the three books I laboured on from 2022 through 2023 published in 2024. The Palgrave book is a seminal and timely work that provides the first ever scholarly analysis of the politics and life of Ghana's Fourth Republic over a long durée(30years). This analysis is wrought through a fascinating ensemble of chapters that cast a critical searching light on the Ghanaian state and society in the longest period of political stability in the West African nation's modern political history and tries to peer as well into its future and survivability. The work on digital technology contributes to making sense of the state of affairs of the protean phenomenon on the continent in an African self-reflexive way that is as contrarian as it is prescriptive. In doing so it offers a unique reading. The spine of the argument is that Africa should be not just a consumer of digitalization but a producer too and think and act strategically[and even skeptically] on this. #Throwback to four years ago when AFIDEP's Director of Public Policy and Knowledge Translation, and Head of Kenya Office,Dr. Rose N. Oronje, spoke with ResonanceFM on institutionalising a culture of evidence use in African governments. One of the key takeaways was that research capacities remain weak in Africa, as there are more investments going into developing research capacities for generating research than investments put towards supporting the translation, synthesis, and packaging of research for use in decision-making. Ensuring Effective Federal Character Principle for National Development Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country with over 250 ethnic groups from diverse cultures, languages, and traditions. It is in recognition of this diversity and ensuring a fair representation of the various components of the Nigerian society in governance that a federal character principle was enshrined in the nation’s constitution for national growth and stability. One of the objectives for assessing the impact of any government including the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of the present administration is the performance of government across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The essence of the federal character principle is therefore to prevent the dominance of any particular ethnic group or region in the political and administrative landscape of Nigeria. The complexity of this country’s diversity necessitated the creation of the Federal Character Commission by Act No 34 of 1996. The Commission was empowered to implement and enforce the federal character principle of fairness and equity in the distribution of public positions and socio-economic infrastructures among the various federating units of the country. Others include ensuring equitable distribution of political dividends, national infrastructure and ensuring inclusiveness. A good number of countries in Africa are now leading the world in terms of economic growth rates, and some organizations/countries have been trailblazers for example in mobile telephony and tele-medicine, including the response to Covid-19. Scholars in African universities are also making significant contributions to scholarship, and benefitting from collaboration with scholars and institutions elsewhere. We seek papers that engage with these important issues, and contribute further to the advancement of knowledge by drawing from indigenous knowledge, formulating home-grown solutions and tapping into the knowledge of local practitioners in order to better meet Africa’s challenges. Since #2010, the momentum for adoption and implementation of #accesstoinformation has picked up and the number of African countries with #accesstoinformation laws has increased from five in 2010 to 29 in #2024. While a considerable number of countries are yet to adopt #ATI laws and implementation challenges persist, there are thousands of good #ATI stories that are neither known nor told. Ten most outstanding #ATI cases in #Africa will be profiled and celebrated during the global commemoration of the 2024 International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) to be hosted by the Government of Ghana and UNESCO, under the theme, “Mainstreaming Access to Information and Public Participation Practices across Government Sectors”.

The University of Lagos has appointed Mr. Adeyinka Adeyemi, Chief Executive Officer of Intermac Consulting and Convener of the Africa e-Governance Conference, as a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Digital Humanities (CEDHUL).   In an official communication addressed to Mr. Adeyemi, Professor Tunde Ope-Davies (Opeibi), Director of the Centre for Digital Humanities, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, and Professor Timothy Nubi, Director of the Research Management Office, noted that the appointment stems from Mr. Adeyemi’s distinguished career and profound expertise in Information and Communications Technology, Digital Solutions in Financial Services, and related fields.   The Centre for Digital Humanities anticipates Mr. Adeyemi's contributions to shaping academic activities and capacity-building programs, leveraging his insights to benefit both students and scholars affiliated with the institution.   Speaking on the new appointment, Mr. Adeyinka expressed gratitude to the management of the university for the appointment, noting that it aligns with his mission and passion for digital transformation in Africa.   The appointment comes at a time when Mr. Adeyinka is advocating for digital governance through a pan-African conference he convened, expected to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, in March 2024. The conference, tagged AfreGov 2024, with the theme “Digital Governance for Social Inclusion and Sustainable Development,” will focus on the prospects of digital transformation across various segments of government across the continent.
