H2M architects + engineers’ Post

Meet Senior Project Architect Sara Gale Weinberg, R.A., LEED G.A.!  At a critical moment in her career, she recognized the need for senior-level guidance in order to develop the skills essential for growth, both personally and professionally. After connecting with her mentor Liz Uzzo, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, it quickly blossomed into a powerful partnership.    “During this time, I was having difficulty advocating for myself professionally and lacked self-confidence. I was open and honest, asking for feedback and advice to work on developing that skillset. Liz was a great listener, always brought a fresh perspective, and spoke the truth,” explained Sara. Through her mentorship journey with Liz, she developed a new outlook on self-advocacy. She continues, “I found the most effective way to advocate for myself that was unique to me, when to stand up for myself, and when to let things go. Although uncomfortable, it's all part of the process.”  This transformed the way Sara approached leadership tasks. “Now, I can better identify when it is best to push and encourage my team, and alternatively, when to pull back and let them fly on their own.” It was not just about supporting others but understanding when it’s appropriate let her team take ownership—an act of support and confidence in its own way.  More than four years later, Sara still turns to Liz for ongoing support and a fresh perspective when needed. One of the most impactful lessons Liz shared with Sara remains a guiding principle in her life. Liz shared, “What’s the worst that can happen? You get told no? When water hits a rock in its path, it flows around it. Be the water, Sara. Flow around the rock.” These words continue to resonate as Sara navigates challenges, always seeking to move forward no matter the obstacle in your path. Sara and Liz both embody a growth-oriented mindset through their constant drive to improve and their willingness to share knowledge and experience with colleagues. Sara's journey serves as a reminder that, while our experiences are unique, we are never truly alone. Connecting with others who have faced similar challenges can provide valuable insights, support, and solutions we might not have discovered on our own.    #growthmindset #mentee #mentor #H2M #mentorshipprogram
