Gunner is so thrilled to have been able to give back to our community through our Gunner Cares initiative this past Veterans Day. Douglas Jackson, a National Guardsman since 2006, has been named Gunner's "Under One Roof" winner, landing him and his family a free roof over their heads! We're happy to have been able to take a heavy burden off their shoulders. Read more about the contest and the Jackson family's story in the link below. #giveaway #roof #roofing #gunner #veterans #thankyou

-- Chief Red Eagle Red Eagle or William Weatherford (1780 or 1781 - March 24, 1824) was a Creek chief. One of many mixed-race descendants of Southeast Indians who intermarried with European traders and later colonial settlers. Red Eagle was of mixed Creek, French and Scots ancestry. He was raised as a Creek in the matrilineal nation and achieved his power in it, through his mother's prominent Wind Clan, as well as his father's trading connections. After showing his skill as a warrior, he was given the war name of Hopnicafutsahia. The Creek War (1813-1814), also known as the Red Stick War and the Creek Civil War, was a regional war between opposing Creek factions, European empires, and the United States, taking place largely in Alabama and along the Gulf Coast. Red Eagle became increasingly concerned about the influx of European Americans onto Creek land and eventually led a group known as “Red Sticks,” bent on protecting their land, their way of life, and their people from intruders. Eventually the smaller forces of Red Sticks and the larger opposing forces led by General Andrew Jackson came against each other. The conflict ended in the decisive defeat of the Red Sticks at The Battle of Horseshoe Bend, near modern-day Dadeville, Alabama. Terms were drawn up that provided far less land than the Creek tribe had previously held. The quote attributed to Chief Red Eagle reads, "Angry people want you to see how powerful they are. Loving people want you to see how powerful YOU are." #inspirationalquote #motivationalquote #wisdomquotes #lifelesson

Can anyone help? My good friend Eden has been dealing with a nightmare home contractor situation and she’s out of ideas on what to do next. She and her family are active military, based near Seattle. Long story short - she and her family have been displaced from their home for almost 2 years after a house fire. The roofing company they hired (local, reputable, insured, bonded, etc) to replace the roof at the end of their reconstruction were negligent in multiple ways, (ie. not having a permit) but most concerning, left their roof completely open allowing a rainstorm to flood their almost completed home. Even after admitting fault (on record via voicemail and email), the company has not financially taken responsibility. In fact the opposite, having tried to take a lien on Eden’s home. 7 months later, they are still displaced and out over $100k that they are extremely worried they will never recoup. Has anyone ever dealt with a similar situation or have contacts in the Seattle area that may be knowledgeable in this arena? She’s doesn’t want financial help. She’s looking for ways to seek justice and hold this company accountable as it seems the company is using every single loophole to avoid taking financial responsibility, even though they clearly are at fault. While still being regarded as highly reputable in their community, steadily doing business. Below is a fb video where she explains the situation in more detail. If anyone has any ideas, thoughts, recommendations, connections.. please share! I’ve learned how crucial a network is not only in business, but sometimes in personal life. Thanks for reading ❤️🎄 #seattle #network #legal #construction #law #legaladvice #helpneeded https://lnkd.in/gFTDcn5E

https://lnkd.in/eG_nuwTr #ArmedForcesFriday This is kind of early for Memorial Day, which is a month out, but it's a topic I like to visit before we all make plans. 159 years ago on April 26th, 1865 the largest surrender of Confederate troops during the US Civil war took place when General Joseph E. Johnston surrendered his forces to General William Tecumseh Sherman. Like many conflicts, the US Civil war ended not with a single victory or surrender, but a number of them. General Robert E. Lee surrendered earlier at Appomattox to General Grant, which is often seen as the "end of the war" though it took a few months to truly conclude. One of the more colorful and successful Confederate leaders, Colonel John S. Mosby, never surrendered his forces, instead he disbanded it and sent his Soldiers home to surrender individually, with Mosby himself surrendering in June. Johnston's surrender negotiations began on April 17th, shortly after the assassination of US President Lincoln, and it would take until the 26th to conclude (under threat of reopening hostilities). There were a few more battles after this event, as well as the eventual capture of Jefferson Davis in May. I studied a few of these battles during my time at the Maneuver Captain Career Course and visited one of them. This was slightly haunting, as they seemed to be a series of one-upmanship in destruction. We have the memoirs of the leaders who often knew each other personally. Some of them graduated the US Military Academy, others served together in the US Army in the antebellum period. But that's just one of the tragedies of this conflict. In the end we get to look back on history as an example, both for small events as well as large ones. Most of the time we get to step back and evaluate them from a distance, without ties. I had several ancestors who fought for the Union during this conflict, one survived the infamous Andersonville prison. Sometimes learning about your history and visiting these places frames them differently, no longer passages in a textbook but standing in fields long after the guns fell silent and Soldiers went home. It's worth the time to travel and reflect, especially since most of these places are open for visitors and preserved as historic landmarks. Something to consider for this upcoming #MemorialDay.

“#CopCity-ATL is designed to join Michigan #CampGrayling founded in 1913 when local lumber baron, Rasmus Hanson, donated over 13,000 acres to the State of #Michigan for military training. Camp Grayling has since grown to 147,000 acres that spans over three counties of maneuver area, state-of-the-art ranges and modern support facilities, making it the largest National Guard Training Center in the Country. In fact, there are Forty-Seven other States that have the same or similar plans…So why are so many of these being built all over and around the country? Why on such a large scale and why with such a wide array of training dealing with urban warfare and repression? “ https://lnkd.in/ghpqFGBc
