💡 This time last week our Gumtree.com Product & Tech colleagues hosted their very first AI Hackathon event, supported by the Google Cloud team. 💻 The aim of the #hackathon was to explore the possibilities of using #AI to solve real world issues for both buyers and sellers on Gumtree.com, with three teams looking at distinct opportunities for using AI to improve the efficiency, personalisation and usability of those journeys. 🎉 The event was a resounding success and a rewarding experience for all attendees, giving them time to think outside of the day job and collaborate together in new ways. Google's Cloud Event ☁️ (Good News For Startups) Last week in Las Vegas, the spotlight at the Google Cloud event was firmly on generative AI, overshadowing Google's mainstay cloud infrastructure. Despite the flurry of AI showcases, including enhancements for their Gemini large language model and various demos, there was an evident lack of depth, with many examples feeling oversimplified and confined to Google’s own ecosystem. Some demonstrations, like an e-commerce transaction that oddly required a vendor call, even seemed unnecessary for AI.
