This is the take. Simon is right. Please do read it. And do consider its implications. In the #organisationdevelopment and #leadership community we of course abhor the injustices of racialisation and racism. We are, are we not, good people whose work is grounded in values and principle. This is not good enough. The dust will settle. For many, white folk, our urgency and realisation will fade. This week I have felt more keenly than ever the deep sorrow, rage and love that #antiracist work evokes in me. I must hang on to, feed, and act from and with those feelings. #OrganisationDevelopment and #Change practitioners and practice must remember and demonstrate our foundation is in social justice work. We must actively work to dismantle structural racism, show racialisation to be the heinous crime that it is, stand firm and ever strive in our commitment to equity and belonging for everyone. Not just because it is right and we are good. Because the inhumanity of this demeans and diminishes us all, including those of us who, like me, can leave the house never having to fear abuse and attack on us, or our families, because of the colour of our skin.

I am a Palestinian business owner. Deal with it. I am proud to use our small business platform to stand up for justice. Asking for an end to an indiscriminate war on a civilian population isn't conditional on who's paying us or who may be uncomfortable with our beliefs. I believe in peace, in justice, in humanity, in a ceasefire. It's pretty simple. As a business owner, I am fully aware of the risk this poses – if only our company measured its success and worth by its bottom line, which we don't. We measure our company success by knowing who we are. We measure it by having solidarity for any member of our staff whose identity, people, community or self expression are threatened or at risk. I am particularly aware of the bias that will be assumed in my position on the topic of Palestine. I also know what my progressive values are: uncompromising, especially in this moment. Excessive and disproportionate use of power, in any circumstance, needs to be called out. Independence in this case means the above views are my own... AND MY COMPANY'S. ✊
Macklemore’s latest song, “Hind’s Hall,” minces no words about the United States’ complicity in the genocide in Palestine and the power of youth-led protests. It’s gained over 20 million streams on Spotify, with all proceeds going to UNRWA USA. Content like this stands out because Macklemore did his research, and is unafraid to speak the truth. While universities cower in the face of donors threatening to pull funding, and American-Israel PAC donations sway elected officials, part of the key is that Macklemore is an independent artist — his message isn’t dictated by a corporate label. “Hind’s Hall” rings out in defiance of wealth-imposed silence. This one line says it all: “The problem isn’t the protests; it’s what they’re protesting.” Ask yourself: How often does money shape the stories you hear, and those you don’t? I actively try to buy companies in my niche industry. I can see their books and compare them with my own company's books and not to boast but we operate far better than anyone else I've seen. Some of that's luck. Some of it is hard work. But another key part of it is that we seek out our errors and rub our noses all in them. We meticulously study our mistakes. There is no room for pride and ego; we just want to improve our performance, make customers happy, and beat everyone else competing with us. LuXout is a microcosm of what society could be if we do the same on a broader scale. Even now there's a campaign to suppress the horrid realities of our history and only talk about the nice things in USA history. The Tulsa Race Riot was simply not taught in school. Neither was Seneca Village in New York, Rosewood in Florida, East Saint Louis in Illinois, COINTELPRO or any other push for the destruction of my American people. People think that teaching these things will spark revenge but the data from the last 405 years negate that. Revenge isn't the goal. Learning from the past is the goal. And it's in our collective interest to remember exactly how we got here and both the good and bad decisions made along the way as it helps us make the most of the decisions before us today. So never forget #Greenwood. Rest in power to #BlackWallStreet. It is my career's mission to either "Zerubabbel" or uplift the ones called to lead the build back. And whatever we don't complete in my generation, my son's will do in his.
As we mark the 103rd anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre this weekend, we are reminded of a chapter in our history that is both painful and profound. Over a century ago, the thriving community of #Greenwood, known as Black Wall Street, was decimated by a violent mob. The tragedy left hundreds dead and thousands homeless and also destroyed one of the United States’ most prolific symbols of Black prosperity. Many community members were forced to flee and start over, including my ancestors. Though a story of loss, there remains a testament to the resilience and enduring spirit of the Black community. Reflecting on #Tulsa, we honor the lives that were lost and celebrate the spirit of Greenwood. The community built something extraordinary, against all odds. Its legacy lives on as a symbol of what is possible when determination meets opportunity. As we remember, we must also commit to action. The fight for #justice and #equality continues, and it is incumbent upon us to ensure that the horrors of Tulsa are never forgotten and never repeated. Today, we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us and carry the responsibility of building a future where every community can thrive. As we look to the future, let’s draw strength from the past. Learn more. https://lnkd.in/gcf-wJ_n #TulsaRaceMassacre #BlackWallStreet

Why I’m not working the DNC. In our business, we have been preparing our clients for the eventualities of protest and random active violence, as the summer gets going, the shootings follow suit. Preparation and awareness are the key, but once things are there, it’s nearly impossible to adjust quickly, as it’s just too late. Taking the six or twelve months beforehand to prepare for what’s already happening, is what works. Trying to do so the week or two before a national convention, during war protests, and then throwing in the out of control violence, and you’ve missed your opportunity. Progressive ideals are great on paper, but they do not work pragmatically. A balance of enforcement with opportunities is what works. Unfortunately, for the 103+ people that were either killed or shot this weekend, it’s a little late for them. The false & naive promises from the City government are being shown to be just that, and clearly.
