The latest Alfieri Boot Camp has just wrapped up, marking another milestone in advancing education for valvular therapies. This intensive three-day masterclass, led by Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in collaboration with PCR, brought together surgeons, echocardiographers, and interventional cardiologists for hands-on training and cutting-edge learning. With simulation-based sessions, real-world case studies, and exclusive anatomical demos on pig hearts, participants mastered surgical and transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) techniques for mitral and tricuspid valve pathologies. Comprehensive evaluations ensured every participant left with new expertise and an official certificate by Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele. The Bootcamp carries the name of Professor Ottavio Alfieri who developed the groundbreaking Edge-to-Edge technique in the 90s, revolutionizing mitral valve repair and laying the foundation for modern percutaneous technologies. He was joined by his former mentee, Professor Francesco Maisano, now Head of the Cardiac Surgery Unit and Director of the Heart Valve Center of Ospedale San Raffaele, continuing the legacy of excellence in structural heart therapies. Congratulations to the first 24 professionals who completed the course, shared their insights, and are now certified! None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our faculty and the passion of everyone involved. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to elevate professional education in structural heart therapies. #GruppoSanDonato #GSDHealthMag #ScienceBased #Training

Excited to share our latest publication in Cureus describing a new robotic-assisted hybrid procedure for persistent atrial fibrillation - the "Robotic Convergent Plus". Using the advanced Da Vinci Xi surgical system, we perform an epicardial ablation first, followed weeks later by an endocardial catheter-based ablation. The robotic approach provides improved visualization and precision to access key areas in the atria. Intraoperative 3D mapping guides our ablation strategy to target areas of abnormal electrical signals. We also monitor the esophageal temperature to maximize safety. In our early experience with 39 patients, this novel robotic approach has been safe and feasible. Compared to non-robotic methods, we found reduced operative times and a faster recovery for patients. More to come as we collect long-term data on atrial fibrillation outcomes. But we believe this represents an important step forward in the minimally-invasive treatment of this challenging arrhythmia. I want to thank my excellent co-authors and collaborators who made this work possible: - Ujjawal Kumar Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, HonorHealth & School of Clinical Medicine, University of Cambridge - Usman Aslam DO, MPH, MS, General Surgery Residency Program, HonorHealth - Yoaav Krauthammer and Rahul Doshi, Department of Electrophysiology, HonorHealth Check out the full open access article here for all the details: https://lnkd.in/gUxaXQFc #RoboticAF #RoboticConvergentPlus #AFib #AtrialFibrillation #Electrophysiology #EPeeps #AFibAblation #HybridAFAblation #ConvergentAblation #RoboticCardiacSurgery #InnovationInAFib #AdvancesInAFib #MinimallyInvasiveAF #PersistentAF #DaVinciXi #CardiacSurgery #Arrhythmia #OpenAccess #Cureus Abbott | Cardiovascular

What a pivotal moment in #cardiothoracic #surgery, what a long road to get to this point and potentially life saving #LVAD technology that is now available to patients. Well done, Emory University and BrioHealth Solutions! 🫀 Here’s a good overview of #LVAD : https://lnkd.in/e9myNAyH
Cardiothoracic surgeons at Emory University implanted the BrioVAD System, a new type of ventricular assist device from BrioHealth Solutions, for the very first time in the United States. The advanced technology, designed to minimize adverse events and improve quality of life, has been under development since 2008. #BrioVAD #cardiology #LVAD #Heartfailure

#SURGHUB As medics, it’s easy to get caught up in the technical aspects of our work, often overlooking the bigger picture. One thing that struck me while exploring SURGhub’s resources on burn care is their emphasis on treating the patient as a whole, not just the wound site. It’s a vital reminder that our patients are more than their injuries, something we often forget in the rush of our busy routines. SURGhub offers a range of educational courses that challenge our perspectives and expand our skill sets. Remember “No one is a fountain of knowledge.” Even in areas you believe you know inside and out, there’s always room to learn something new. I encourage you to visit SURGhub and explore their content. Whether it's burn care or any other topic, you’ll find insights that transform not just your technical abilities but your approach to patient care as a whole. More appreciation to The G4 Alliance SOTA fellowship program through which such opportunities are shared. Such a great project from RCSI Institute of Global Surgery ,The Global Surgery Foundation and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)

Hey connections, check out our new update about #NeuRx_DPS_Electrodes #biozeephysis #atheenapandian #biomedical #global #platform #knowledge #panel #society #updates
The #NeuRx_DPS_electrodes are implanted into the muscles of the diaphragm during laparoscopic surgery near the nerve that controls the diaphragm, called the phrenic nerve, but without touching it or moving it. The electrode wires, or leads, run through the body to an exit site created in the chest. This type of stimulation system should give 90% of people the ability to breathe without a ventilator for at least 4 hours per day, and allow 50-60% of people to breathe without a ventilator for 24 hours each day (continuous use). In one study of 92 people, 88% (81/92) achieved at least 4 consecutive hours of pacing from the NeuRx DPS. Additionally, 76% (70/92) of people in the study received stimulation for at least 12 hours per day and 60.8% (56/92) of participants used stimulation for 24 hours. Dear Biozeephysis updators, The #TriClip_G4_System is used to treat tricuspid regurgitation (leaky tricuspid valve) often caused by an enlarged heart or damaged tricuspid valve leaflets, without open-heart surgery. The TriClip includes a clip placed into the body, a delivery catheter, and accessories. The clip implant has arms that open and close, allowing them to attach to the flaps of the tricuspid valve of the heart (leaflets). The tricuspid valve is one of four valves of the heart that allows blood to flow from the right atrium (upper right chamber) to the right ventricle (lower right chamber) and prevents blood from flowing backward between the two heart chambers. A doctor inserts the catheter with the clip attached through the largest vein in the groin and pushes it forward to reach the tricuspid valve. The clip’s arms are used to grip the tricuspid valve leaflets and bring them together to narrow the space and reduce the leakiness of the tricuspid valve defect. When the clip is in the right position, it is released from the delivery catheter and the catheter is removed.
