As Australia seeks sustainable solutions to reduce its carbon footprint, biogas has emerged as a crucial component of its renewable energy landscape. Ramboll’s Senior Consultant, Biogas and Waste to X Dr Reza Yosri, PhD will discuss Denmark's successful integration of biogas into its energy strategy, providing valuable insights into Australia’s renewable gas initiatives, at the Victorian Bioenergy Network’s Gippsland Bioenergy Forum from 18 to 19 April 2024. Denmark's approach comprises comprehensive policy measures, robust government support and collaboration between the public and private sectors. These efforts are founded on a commitment to sustainability and effective organic waste management, which have significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions and enhanced energy security. The Danish model includes practices such as the co-digestion of agricultural and household organic waste, the integration of upgraded biogas into the existing natural gas network, and the use of combined heat and power units. Reza will discuss the insights from Denmark’s experience and evaluate their relevance to Australia, considering its unique regional, resource and socio-economic factors.
