Unpacking a little more from 2.5 years in Norway - here's a timelapse of a day on sea ice, compressed into 6 minutes. What's happened leading to this point? - ice safety survey (I asked for the ship to be moved based on ice conditions at the gangway, denied, ok move on and increase alertness) - briefing about ice conditions, who can work where, coordinating tasking - discussion between ship's officers, voyage management and field teams on operational safety, resulting in everyone wearing full immersion suits - as the most remote team, briefing ship management on our survey strategy, travel intentions, evacuation strategy for bears and unstable ice - comms and equipment checks - lots of in-office planning and discussion and coordination and collaboration before we even start the packing process... As you can see in the video, we still get surprises! At the end of the day, we had a wonderful hike on the ice collecting invaluable on-ground data in a landscape that is completely unique - no human has ever walked there before, and no human ever will again. It's the last time I walked on Arctic ice, with some luck I'll get there again, or deploy experienced gained elsewhere (this was ice station ... quite a lot... , on my 8th field expedition). However, it's already been a privilege to have visited that world in a way where we were able to walk where we wanted to, explore, investigate, try to understand... #arctic #seaice #timelapse #ArvenEtterNansen #polarResearch #calval #fieldwork #openforheadhunting

"Meet the Seawise Giant, the largest ship to have ever sailed the seas! This massive vessel measures a staggering 458 meters (1,503 feet) in length and 69 meters (226 feet) in width, making it a marvel of modern engineering and a testament to human innovation. With a size equivalent to four football fields, the Seawise Giant is an awe-inspiring sight to behold. #SeawiseGiant #LargestShipInTheWorld #MaritimeEngineering #Shipbuilding"

Canada geese fly in V formation for several reasons: 1. Aerodynamic advantage: Flying in formation reduces wind resistance, allowing geese to conserve energy. 2. Improved visibility: The V shape allows geese to see each other and maintain communication. 3. Navigation: The lead goose guides the flock, while others follow, reducing navigation errors. 4. Predator avoidance: The formation makes it harder for predators to target individual geese. 5. Social bonding: Flying together strengthens social bonds within the flock. This iconic V formation is a remarkable display of teamwork and adaptation in nature. Watch this short video! https://lnkd.in/erHi-Qmp
