Transformative Leadership real life Story: How Unity and Self-Belief Led Us to World Cup Success 25 years ago at just 19, I found myself representing my country 🇪🇬 as part of the under-21 handball 🤾♂️ national team. Despite our initial victories, the looming challenge of competing in the World Cup left us feeling uncertain and fearful of failure. Our goal was simply to avoid embarrassment and maintain our dignity. A Turning Point: Ten months before the championship, new leadership brought a fresh perspective. Our new coach wasn't just a leader; he was a mentor, commanding respect through empathy and humility. He introduced three fundamental principles that reshaped our team: 1. Harmony: Through synchronized training sessions, we fostered unity that transcended the field. He will wake us up at 3 am to run for 60 mins in synchronised steps while singing together. 2. Confidence: Our coach instilled in us the belief that our potential was limitless, transforming doubt into determination.Simply together we can win against another team. 3. Unity: We embraced the motto "One for all, and all for one," forging a bond that made us stronger together. Against all odds, we triumphed. Led by our coach's ambition and kindness, we defied expectations and claimed the bronze medal at the World Cup. Our journey taught us the power of unity and self-belief, proving that empathetic leadership can inspire extraordinary achievements. This is the story of how a team discovered its worth and reached new heights through unity and belief in ourselves—a story that continues to inspire and remind us as a team of the transformative impact of compassionate leadership. #empathy #Unity #harmony #confidence

Do you focus on the performance or the outcome? During his post race interview American 🇺🇸 1500m Olympic Champion Cole Hocker said that you had to be able to seize opportunity when it presented itself. All of the pre race hype was about British 🇬🇧 athlete Josh Kerr and Norways Ingebrigtsen meanwhile Hocker focussed on himself and his own performance. Early in the race Ingebrigtsen forced the pace causing Kerr to go with him. In the closing stages he could be seen looking about himself, presumably for Kerr. All the while Hocker went about his business, closed the gap and ran them both down for Gold medal 🥇. Often when we are looking to motivate or inspire our teams we talk about outcomes, results or numbers (winning the gold medal), the problem is that we can’t control the outcome or the performance of our competitors. Instead if we concentrate on our performance and preparation they are tangible and we can control them. We then use numbers to check that our performance is increasing. If it isn’t we reevaluate what we are doing, change our methodology, work harder and measure again. As performance increase so the results will come. For the record I thought Josh Kerr was brilliant. It was refreshing seeing a young athlete so up for it! I have no doubt he and his team will go through the evaluation process and be back in L.A. in four years time just as up for it!! #performance #team #highperformance #comtrol #olympics #resilience #keynote #keynotespeaker

Now that the F1 season is over and while we are eagerly waiting for the new season of Drive to Survive, there is a topic I can't get out of my mind: The Gasly-Ocon dynamics. If we look at the results, Gasly increased his performance dramatically after Ocon was announced out of Alpine - Before the announcement: Gasly averaged just 0.125 points per race (1 point across 8 races). - After the announcement: Gasly averaged 2.5625 points per race (41 points across 16 races). This represents a 1950% improvement in his average points per race. On top of that, he achieved a podium finish with 3rd place at the Brazilian Grand Prix and secured a strong 5th place in Qatar. Although there may be other factors, I venture to say that once he stopped putting his energy into fighting his teammate, he could focus entirely on what he was hired to do: race and deliver results. I see this in far too many teams: the energy that should be directed outward—toward beating competitors and winning the market—is wasted on internal conflicts and rivalries. Imagine what your organization could achieve if your teams aligned behind shared goals instead of competing internally. If this resonates with you, let’s talk! We’d love to help your teams collaborate, align, and focus on what truly matters. hashtag#Formula1 hashtag#F1 hashtag#DriveToSurvive hashtag #TeamCoaching #TeamFacilitation #TeamDynamics #Leadership #LeadershipDevelopment #CollaborationOverCompetition #FocusOnResults

Really enjoyed this chat with Brian Moylett digging into the journey through sport and business and some of the fundamentals that transfer in both directions. There are so many commonalities that both can learn from each other and it was great to discuss some of those with Brian. As always I appreciate the opportunity to chat and share a bit about my story but more importantly the learnings along the way….. 100% of sport is people, 100% of business is people. When we develop a people centric approach to leadership and teams we create the opportunity to build success. #leadership #teams #usa #uk #rugby #business The Performance Chain

Olympic Leadership Snippets - Part 2 Tom Daley's return to the Olympic Games is a remarkable story of inspiration, perseverance, passion and authenticity. After an incredible two-year break from the sport, Daley dedicated a year to rigorous training for his historic fifth Olympic appearance. Competing in the 2024 10m synchro event, he earned a silver medal, adding to his illustrious career. Daley has faced Olympic disappointments in the past, but he emerged as Britain’s most high-profile and beloved gay sportsman, winning three world championships. During his break, he became known for his knitting hobby, making it cool and endearing himself to fans worldwide. A pivotal moment for Daley came when his son said, “Papa, I want to see you dive at the Olympics.” This sparked a renewed determination in Daley, igniting a new fire within him to pursue his dreams. Daley’s ability to take two years off and then return as a world medallist and champion is extraordinary. His participation in five consecutive Olympic Games cements his status as a supreme competitor and an inspiration to many. Leadership nuggets: 1. Find inspiration - often from those closest to you. 2. Believe in your talent, set big goals, and persevere. 3. Be authentic and courageous in being yourself. See for yourself:

It's been amazing to witness the Olympic T&F finals this week! As a former competitive track athlete, the 400m Hurdles and 4x400m races brought back memories of my college days. It also made me realize that in team sports like football or basketball it's more of a meritocracy. If you’re better than the next guy, you play. In individual sports like track, I like to think it’s more about bettering yourself. I like that as an analogy for work. It’s not a competition internally. Focus on beating your last PR and being better than you were yesterday. Stop comparing yourself to others. Finding your best self is the key to continuous improvement. #Olympics #TrackAndField #SelfImprovement
