Computer and network equipment manufactured in China is not necessarily bad. However, there are some things you may not realize: 1) That the PRC owns a large stake in many companies. Because of that, they *could* have a level of control over the manufacture of the product. 2) The law in China requires that the government be told FIRST when a vulnerability is discovered. This means that by law, any flaw in a system is know by the Chinese government first. Their control over the dissemination of that information (or delay) could be a concern.

Graph of known China espionage cases uncovered in the US during the last 20 years. Are education, industry, state and federal government employers really watching out for this theft of technology? China's ascent as a technology powerhouse is likely due in part from these activities in the US, Europe, and other countries. https://lnkd.in/gZpTKVJh https://lnkd.in/gkHaPN82

China makes most of the solar panels in the world with the power generated by its coal fired power fleet. They also make textiles, shoes, electronics, cell phones, computers, furniture, mining equipment, chemicals etc… you name it where they rely on their base load capacity of coal fired power stations to supply the power to their various industries. Hence, China has the increasing carbon emissions. Would western world consider buying less from China? Or they cannot stop this addiction because China is reliable and cheap?

The Ministry of State Security has thwarted an attempt to smuggle gallium, highlighting the importance of public vigilance in protecting the nation's critical mineral resources. Gallium, a rare metal vital for computer chips, optic fibers, and new-energy batteries, is also crucial for military applications. In response to global trends, China designated gallium as a controlled export substance in August of last year. Recently, the ministry announced that it intercepted a bottle of gallium intended for smuggling. The suspect, Du, was found with the substance in his luggage while trying to leave China. Investigations revealed that Du was unaware of the prohibition, having been asked by Tang, an employee of a Chinese metal company, to transport the gallium to an individual named Fan abroad. Further inquiries indicated that Tang had knowingly purchased the controlled material and promised Du a substantial reward. Law enforcement, in conjunction with state security, penalized Tang and his company. Due to the small quantity and lack of harm, Du received a reprimand and education about export laws. The ministry reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding strategic mineral resources and urged the public to report suspicious activities. According to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China accounted for 90% of the world's gallium production as of 2022, holding two-thirds of global reserves. #Semiconductors #China https://lnkd.in/gfQX5hJh
